Today I put the finishing touches on my press and moved it into my new shop, which is 1/2 of a container. It's a tight fit but every thing is in there. I am still going to build a table about the same size as the on in the photos just with 1/2in plate top and 1/4x3in angle legs. I started using the press for the first time today and it works great. I got 2 damascus billets on the way. :)

Thanks for all of the help yall have given me while I was building the forge and press! :D

nice looking press  , Man you are going to fry in that box, I grew up in metarie/kenner/slidell. I had to move up here to the yankee north to just escape the heat...:) good luck

Thats a nice setup Jimmy congrats on the press and have fun forging. One thing i noticed is the huge propane tank on the inside. if the tank itself gets too hot or god forbid there is a leak  things could get ugly maybe look into hardlines through the wall or something.Be careful whatever you do.

Thats true, it probaly isn't the best place for it to be. However, everytime I use it I make sure there arn't any leaks, and I make sure to check it a lot during use.

Your right it is hot in there. However, it's not so bad when both doors are open. I am going to try and get a fan in there also, and lotts and lotts of water.

Very nice!

I must say, however, that you could absolutely melt that forge with the blower and burner setup that you have:)

I'll never complain about my shop being small again:o .Dude, I have to give you credit for determination.Press looks awesome, but I agree with putting the tank outside, besides it will free up a couple of square feet that I am sure you could use:D .Dave

Good looking press. Basicly the same design as the one I built. What I beleive I'd do is mount the forge on wheels and roll it out to heat and beat. My propane tank is tied to a dolly so I can roll it in and out of the shop also.

Way to go Jimme. Nice looking shop. I wish I had started as early as you did. Youve got a great head start on knife making...keep it up...

btw...is that a small container or one that was cut in half?

Way to go Jim! A good looking press. It looks like you could use some ventilation. A lot of nasty stuff will get trapped in there.
Screw the hair cut suggestion, it goes good with the shades. Fred :jerkit:

I agree it is a good looking press. If the gray motor shown below the cross member the lower dies sit on is for your hydralic system, I suggest you put a dust cover on it to keep flux, slag, scale, etc out of it. Motors don't tolerate too much junk for long.

Since you also live in a state that has its share of humidity, storing the hydraulic ram with the arm not exposed to the moist air will extend its life considerably.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Don't worry Fred I'll keep my hair until the school makes me cut it :(.

Mike the container is a 20fter, and I have to share it :(. It's actualy not to bad though with those 2 big doors oppen.

I really need to get rolling on making stuff now; this forge and press has put me under on my funds. I was thinking of making some damascus with H-D transmission shaft cores and stuff like that. I just need more hours in the day.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Lookin good J. but I'm sure glad I don't have to work in that box :D You will work your way into a larger shop if you keep at it. I guess you fixed the shaft on that press? It does look good.

I ended up getting that stop for the cylinder. I found that I probably won't use that 2in of stroke anyway.

You can see it here.
