Yesterday I bought a new black Victorinox Classic SD for only eight dollars. I know it is a small knife, but could you get anything better for such a low price? The nail file is probably the part of it that I like best, because it actually works. It's a great knife to slip on a key chain. I'll certainly still carry a bigger folder, but the little Classic SD will not raise eyebrows if I get it out in public to clean my fingernails with. You just scare people if you use a SOG Spec-Elite 2 to do that with! I showed the Classic SD to my wife, and now she wants one. I could barely get her to give it back to me. I'll be getting her one soon.

Aside from being one of the most under rated knives out there, its also the most produced knife in the worl. Victorinox makes 35 million knives a year, 9 million of which are the tiny classic.

For the past several years I've carried one on my keyring with a quick detach snap, and I use it for small jobs like opening mail, UPS boxes, and grundgy jobs I don't want to dull up my regular edc on. It has amazed me by standing up to everything I've put it through, even though I expected it to break up as I was using it as a semi-disposable knife. And I've been able to walk through security at places where it is very tight on knives like the National Gallery Of Art, The Smithsonian Museum and the Federal buildings here in Washington D.C.

A few years ago I used the classic as a Christmas stocking stuffer to all the non-knife members of the family. They all became very attached to the classic and put them on the keyring. For the women folk, I think it was the little sissors and nail file that put it over the top. Even very elderly Aunt Jane uses the sissors very often, and became very distrought when she lost hers in the house. She ended up buying a blue translusent one to replace it.

The classic is a great little pen knife!

The Classic is a wonderful knife. I have a Rambler on my keychain while my wife has the Classic on hers. These little knives are very useful.

I own one as well, it was actually my first knife- given to me by my mom when I was old enough, maybe 10 or so? stayed in my drawer until I had my own keys, then it went on the keychain & has been used for lots of small tasks, I agree that its a good choice for use around general public..and to loan to non-knife people as well, especially if kept only moderately sharp.

I've got one on my keychain also. Does the usefulness of this knife know no bounds? I use the scissors constantly but most often on fishing line. The tiny screwdriver comes in handy for adjusting gun sights, etc. After years of having it so handy, I can't imagine living without one.

I've carried a classic on my key ring for at least 8 years. I use the screwdriver for small prying jobs and the toothpick and tweezers and scissors are handy to have. Don't care for the blade. Too hard to control it with the keys in the way. I carry another knife for cutting and a micra for screwdrivers.

I've bought my wife a few Classics over the years, and when I get a catalog from SMKW I open it up to the Victorinox pages and share it with her. Nearly a year ago she started her very own mini-collection of the Classics with all the various colors of Edelweiss (sp.?) flowers on the handles. Those are the famous little flowers that I've heard grow profusely in the high alpine meadows of Switzerland. I feel more comfortable with a bigger knife in my hand, but you just can't beat Victorinox for consistent quality and economical pricing. I don't know how they do it, but I sure am glad they do.
