Years back I got my first SOG, the SCUBA/DEMO. I had always seen the S1 Bowie at the local, over priced knife shop, and wanted it, but never bought it. Then the Snap-On guy came into work, and I found out I could order SOGs through him, and he'd let me make payments! I ordered up the SCUBA/DEMO and made my monthly payments. I used the knife a lot. Even used the serrated back to cut the windshield out of a rolled over truck once. I was young and dumb, and ended up trading the knife, for a back pack...I've always regretted it.

The other day I was thinking about the knife and started looking online for them, prices were (are) crazy! I was looking through the knife section of the classifieds on the local firearms forum, and found a listing for "Bowie Knife", all it said was that it was a SOG Vietnam tribute knife. I contacted the seller and he told me it was stamped "Seki", so I set up a meet. When I got there he showed me a perfect condition, S1 Bowie, in the sheath. He told me he bought it and forgot about it, never used it. It has a little wear from the sheath, but it's in great shape! I got it for $80.

I love the knife, but I'm scared to use it and mess up the amazing bluing. I almost want to try to trade it for another SCUBA/DEMO, but I don't know.

I'm just glad I got another good SOG!

Glad to hear your joy.
Congratulations!
Whatever you decide,
Just consider the need
For great care before
Storing away carbon steel blades.
I m sure one could engage a professional
To re-blue when the need arises.
But as one might well know,
That it isn't a durable finish.
If one is not particular about blemishing the original finishing,
A cold blue gel or liquid could handle small touch ups just about.

I would wipe that S1 blade down with Tuff Cloth, make a paper sleeve for the blade, and put it away.
Just don't ever store it in that leather sheath. A Seki S1 is a collectible not a user.

Did it come with the sheath? If so is there a name on the sheath such as Santa Monica or Edmonds? Also are there any numbers on the knifes ricasso?

It did come with a sheath, all that it says (that I've found) is SOG Lynnwood, WA.. I do not see any numbers on the knife, the left side has the square SOG specialty knives logo, the right side says Seki - Japan, has another logo with a knife, arrows, and wings stamped in it, and says "Vietnam 5th Special Forces Group".

If I decide not to sell it, I will wrap it up nice and put it away for a while. I just got a Chris Reeve Pacific, that I plan to actually use. It's hard for me to have something, a tool, and not use it!

Like Ken said above it's a Seki Sog S1 bowie so people still pay a premium for them. I know what you mean about a knife is a tool so why am I treating it like a piece of crystal? I'm kind of in the middle, got an earlier S1 that's a safe queen and I purposely got a tech bowie to use. Congratulations on your find.

Haha thanks...I'll pass on your offer of $160 lol and I'll learn from your experience and not cut fruit or melons with it! I've oiled it and put it away in the gun cabinet for now...we will see when I get the urge to break it in, or if I can keep it as a collectors knife, which I don't like the sound of.

It is not in the sheath, it is hung up with a light film of gun oil on it, with a couple heavy duty tacks holding it up.
