Hey all, I've just received my Tech bowie in black finish. Just thought I share a few pics for you all. It's an awesome looking knife but the black TiNi looks kind of weak to me, it's not as black as I've seen in other pictures. Can anyone confirm this?

Anyway thanks to all who helped me decide between this and the Seal Team Elite (which I think I may get eventually) ;)

beautiful blade:thumbup:

and you won't be slipping your hand off that handle.

that's for sure.

Kraton is maybe not the most durable,I always wondered how durable that material is.anybody knows?

but it always gave me a very secure grip.more than any other material.

Yeah, I can hardly tell its black TiNi by the pic, weird cuz the one I have is a very flat black.
Awesome looking knife, regardless!

Thanks guys for the nice praises!

Killafornia: That's exactly what I've been trying to figure out. I guess yours must be the older version of the tech bowie (without the split bullet logo).

I've just been wondering; is the black TiNi coating of the newer tech bowies made in Taiwan so bad that it looks like Satin to me 3 feet away? The pictures of the older tech bowies I see have a nice true black coating. Real black.

Here's a picture of the older model (note the square SOG logo. It's real black compared to the newer models:

Wicked!
It's a very nice catch "nutz_about_knives".
But seeing that this model is meant to be a "user" rather than a "safe queen";
kraton is probably just the thing requested by numerous outdoorsmen who prefer comfort rather than hard-wearing materials "to handle" the job.
And I certainly wouldn't treat kraton handled knives as something befitting a treasured family heirloom either!
Truly a spectacular looking knife to check out the backwoods with.
I wouldn't mind one for use myself.

I actually have a follow up question on this knife.

I remember a post from a few months back about someone that tipped their kayak a few times with one of the bowies (I believe an older one) and complained of the submersion affecting the finish.

I don't plan to use this as a dive knife, but how do the coatings compare to say a Seal 2000? Is the tang under the handle coated as well?

Would the satin finished stand up as well as/better than the coated knife?

Chrs

I did hear from a guy that his Cold Steel SRK Kraton handle got loose when using it under water (salt).it started to twist around the metal:eek:.
THAT is definitely you don't want to happen to your knife.
that's why strong constructed blade/handle connection like the Sog Seal(Pup,Team Elite,2000) knives have my preference.
