i put her first 300 rounds through her today.

it's a fantastic weapon. light years beyond how my old taurus millenium pro treats me.

anyhow. 300 rounds cost me 70 bucks today.

i'm thinking about a .22lr conversion kit. right now, it's the ciener conversion, msrp around 200.00 + 30.00/magazine.

can anyone recommend me a .22 conversion?

is it worth it to get a conversion or just a whole other .22 handgun?

Great gun. I love mine, and you made an excellent choice.

Have you considered buying a Dillon Reloader? You can crank out your own ammo, it gives you yet another hobby, and you get to shot your 1911 a WHOLE lot more for less money per round than buying new stuff.

You'd be better off getting a Ruger 22/45 bull barrel.......cost about the same, and NO hassle

Nice rig!

Second that one. Personally, I'm not a huge Ruger fan but their 22lr target pistols carry a good reputation and a good price. My 5 1/2 inch bull barrel is a good pistol.

Like the Springfield, I got the Champion model myself, and IMO think that the Milspec's are a better value, unless you need to add Night sites, change the extractor, and all the other goodies that come with it.

If I did it over again, I think I'd purchase the Milspec over the Champion, and add Night Sites to it again.

What's its length?

5" barrel.

i've fired rental 1911's w/ 3" and 4" barrels, and none of them ever felt quite right. then i rented a springfield full-size, and immediately knew this was the *right one.* love at first sight? :P

Congratulations on getting a damn fine gun!!! I own one myself, although the "accessory bug" bit me on the wallet a couple of times.

Not that it needed ANY accessories, I'm just one of those morons that can't leave well enough alone. A funny story about a friend of mine who purchased a Kimber TLE for what I believe was slightly over $800 bucks. Completely box-stock and can't finish 100 rounds without having somekind of FTF or FTE. A couple of months later, just as a "range toy" bought a Springfield mil-spec GI and to this day (and several thousand rounds later) hasn't had a single problem with it. Goes to show, sometimes less is more.

i also am running mine stock, 'cept the handles and mags.

i've got some soft rubber Hogue grips on mine, which makes the handle a *bit* wide to reach around, but is very grippy and comfortable otherwise.

i've got two novak 8 round magazines as well. they are SOO much better than my K-brand mags, as well as that stock mag. I'm not so sure about the plastic bottoms though..

I had Hogue rubber grips on mine and I really liked them, but decided to switch to skateboard tape because I wasn't getting enough "bite" on my palm.

I use Wilson mags personally and had not a single problem with them. Wilsons have plastic bottoms also, and the cost of the whole magazine is a bit pricy. I have heard great things about CMC mags, a few dollars less but function great.
Were you planning to use this gun for recreation, competition, or self defense?
Just curious :)

gota love anything springfield makes. I have a springfield peter stahl omega 10mm that you can drive tack with and for less than half the cost I got a XD40 and this bad boy surprised the hell out of me. When I saw them come out with the mil speck I knew I had to knave one but its on a long list including a compact HK usp a Korth balisong and a daytona 675 wich just took priority when my speed triple shat out on me.

The Ruger target pistol is only .22 long rifle capable. Bought a very accurate one [used]at a gunshow recently. My .223 ranch rifle convinced me of Ruger quality.
Sure there are lots of choices but this one pleases me.I've owned guns since I was eleven or twelve and since I don't have to hunt for meat anymore, decided to start collecting them.

Safe shooting!

Uncle Alan :)

*drool* I have SO got to get one of those! I thought they used to make it with the OD Armory Kote finish, but now on the web site only the GI model has that option. Oh well. Another one I was interested in was the Kimber Ultra Carry II, but I'm going to give it a go with the full size first. I'd better go get my CCW soon, it's gonna suck having all these guns and not being able to carry them!

Dude why buy a .45 to put .22 through it????

Get reloading your own ammo, cost effective and great fun, major calibres rock...

I have a Marvel conversion, and I can't recommend it.

First I tried the Unit 2, the new design, and that jammed so much I returned it for the Unit 1, the original, which was better but still not good. I returned it for repair along with the magazines and it still is not right.

So, I guess I'll send it in again and see if they can get it to work. Thanks for the reminder.

My Ruger has been very reliable, happy to recommend it.

Oh, and if you need a gunsmith I like Tripp Research. They did mine.Patrick
