Thanks to my wife giving me a Southard and a Sage 2 for Valentine's day, I've decided to give up my beloved Benchmades, and William Henrys for a while, and go over to the dark side and carry only Spydercos.
I'd never been Spyderco fan, having previously owned a bunch of them and never having really clicked with them (I found them overly bulky, clunky, and oddly styled--the Sage knives, for example, are huge in the pocket for how little blade you get).
The Southard alone is rapidly forcing me to admit that I like some Spyderco offerings. The oversized, clunky shape that I disliked on their midsized knives is a blessing when it comes to finding a tiny Chicago-legal knife that you can actually get enough of a grip on to have it be useful for anything. I ended up adding a CF Kopa to the mix, and I really like it. I always thought the BM 707 was the smallest useful knife I'd ever want to carry, but with the little mini-choil setup on the Kopa it's easy to get four fingers on it if you want to use it for something that requires any force.
So this is what I'm carrying now, every day. I'm pretty happy with these guys, though I'm finding it difficult to get the Sage 2 much pocket time at this point. It feels about the same in the pocket as the Southard, and if they carry the same it's hard to skip over my now-favorite Southard. Here are the only knives I'm carrying:
Long story short, Spyderco is growing on me like fungus. It pains me to say it, but I think I'm actually becoming a Spyderco fan.
