I have been looking to get my hands on a Navigator for sometime.
I have been looking for a local dealer that carried spyderco so I could see first hand what the navigator was like, the way it fit my hand, carried in my pocket, etc...
I found a large sporting store that was about a two hour drive (one way)from my house.
I called them to find out if they carried spyderco.
They did
I asked if they had the Navigator in stock, he put me on hold to look.
He came back to the phone and told me they did not have that one but could order it
Well the wife wanted to go shopping in this town that had the sporting store that I called, so the next day (today) I ended up in the store looking around at the knives.
In looking at the spyderco's I spotted the navigator in the display case, dam!
I asked to see it. It was the plain edge that I wanted but in looking at the blade I seen the steel was GIN-1
I was looking to get it in VG-10.
Well in looking at the price tag it was about $20 higher then were I was going to order one online anyway.
As I was putting it back I was explaining to the sales man that I was looking for it in VG-10 and that this one was made out of GIN-1 steel, I don't think he really gave a dam.
I then asked if he had any in a box that maybe one of the new ones would be in VG-10 steel.
He took a look to see what they had in boxes.
There was only one plain edge navigator in a box. He took it out of the box and handed it to me.
I opened the blade and looked at it, VG-10!
It was like magic. From that time on I knew I had to have that knife.
The price no longer seemed to matter.
Anyway I had to tell someone about my new knife, as my wife does not yet know and I'm sure if I was to tell her she really would not give a dam
