Well I just wanted to give an update after my thread asking for your help. I was looking for my first traditional (other than my sak) and wanted a good whittler. I truly appreciated the input that you gave and your suggestions. So with no further ado here she is. The patina is starting to come along nicely.
It is a Boker 4" Stockman with smooth texas yellow bone scales in carbon steel

Looks great! That should prove to be a fine companion. Thanks for sharing it with us. I have a handful of Bokers in carbon steel and they are solid knives.

Very nice. May I ask where you got that knife? I've been hankering for a nice yellow bone handled stockman.

Thanks I really like it. I seem to be coming back around to the traditional knives and man can I get this carbon steel sharp. What the pictures don't show is that when I picked it up I couldn't close it because I had my camera in my other hand and I ever so slightly touched my thumb to the sheepsfoot blade resulting in a nice cut on my knuckle  Oh well first blood letting is over with.

I got this one at www.knivesplus.com It was a good experience. The smooth yellow bone is a limited edition that I couldn't find anywhere else. They have the stockman, a hunter and a trapper in it left. Scroll to the bottom of their page and search for "boker yellow bone" and they will pop up.

That's a nice looking Boker. How is the knife? Good backsprings and a nice snap? How about blade play? Seems that I've heard Boker is "hit or miss" with QC.

That's some nice yellow bone. I have the same model with rosewood scales.

My experience with Boker has been that the fit and finish, and the spring strength, have all been very good.

Congrats TLR! Out of the knives you'd narrowed it down to, that's the one I would have gone with as well.

I'm curious to hear about the fit and finish as well. Do the springs have good strong snap, and are the blades snug and tight when open? If so you got a great knife at a great price.

I've got a red bone Boker Whittler in my pocket right now that goes with me to the office pretty frequently. It's perfect in every respect. However, I've had some other Bokers that came with problems, mostly weak springs. When they get it right though, there's no better production slipjoint out there, IMO.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Honestly I couldnt be happier with the knife. Fit and finish is very good to excellent. The only issue that I have found is a tiny difference in the scale height vs. the bolster?? endcap?? not sure what you call the metal hinges on a traditional :o still a newbie in this area of knives. When I say tiny I mean the thickness of a fingernail or less on one corner. Just barely enough to notice.
The walk and talk is excellent. Good strong backspring which was important to me since I want to carve/whittle with it. No blade play on any blade in any direction at all.
Overall I am very happy with it. QC did their job on this one.
Supposedly this knife is a very limited run that is not advertised in Bokers lineup. There is a page on knivesplus that talk about Boker doing some they call OTW- the link is here LINK
I only post and write this to suggest that perhaps QC is better on these limited runs??
I know that I couldn't find this knife anywhere else on the web including searching bokers site.
Anyone else heard of these OTW limited runs??
Anyway again I am very happy with it and look forward to years of use from it.

That's great news. Congratulations.

Right now I own four Boker slipjoints and they're all excellent in all respects as it sounds like yours is. Well I'm glad you did so well.

Regards,

Jim

I've got a stockman, congress and a stag whittler and they snap like timber. If its hit or miss I have hit everytime. Nice knife btw.

I have a similar Boker . . . I really like the nice, thin blade. It's an excellent cutting tool!

Great, I have a couple Bokers in carbon, a Barlow from the 80's and a Whittler from 2005, they are nice.

I have two boker stockman carbon steel, one with jigged red bone the other tortes shell celluloid. The fit & finish is out standing, but the tortes shell knife has one lazy blade. Instead of walking and talking it kind of slithers & whispers. Disappointing when you consider how nice looking a knife it is.

Yes I own the smooth red bone as well...4 incher ..It does snap like a crocodile . I bought it from the aarmy surplus store here on display and when the merchant snapped the blade down he snipped his thumb and blood trickled down my new boker....thats a bite lol..it rarely gets used its so damned pretty
