well it's not brand new, but it is new to me. I was lucky enough to get a great deal on this knife. I used to own the same knife, with the factory finish, and i really liked it but never quite fell in love with it. It's still early, but this second time around might really set this knife off for me. I absolutely love the look and feel of stonewashed handles. It has completely reinvent a knife that for whatever reason I previously never went crazy over.

It was actually quite difficult to photograph the tumbled look of the handles so shot this knife in a variety of light. Anyway, i hope you can kind of see what i see when i look at this beauty.

enjoy!

Thanks Chad. IMO, it looks better and perhaps less prone to minor scratches than the CR's standard Ti finish. More like Hinderer's.

no prob!

it is definitely less prone to scratches. as far as comparisons, i would say hinderer's stonewashing is probably the most similar. The feel is almost identical to that of the XM-18 stonewashed handle, although the look appears to have slightly less of a shine to it. I think it's awesome!

It's funny you mention very similar thoughts about the Umnumzaan as I have. I recently sold mine as I liked it but something about it had me looking elsewhere. Now that it's gone, I'd really like to get one again and perhaps change the finish on the handle.

Chad,
I like it a lot, Nice score, Also great pictures....:thumbup::thumbup:

Nice one Chad! Now I have to find someone to stonewash mine.
The original finish shows scratches way too easily.

No need to find someone. If you carry it everyday the original handle finish becomes stonewashed over the years.

That's my plan!

Hey Chad et. al. I just saw an ad in the new Blade magazine stating a "Stonewash" finish on the Umnum Tanto from the exclusive vendor. Maybe they are coming this way from TNK's. Can anyone confirm?

So i don't know anything about an exclusive vendor producing stonewashed handles, but i do know for sure that my Umnum was done privately. I just received the contact info for the guy who did the work on mine. PM me if you're interested and i'll hook it up. I have no idea about what he'll charge or anything like that, but i'd be happy to look into for anyone interested.

thanks everyone for the comments!

I believe I used to own that knife. If it was, the stonewashing was done by Dave Rydom.
But I now have the resources to do it myself.

Hey, i'm almost positive this was not your knife. The guy who i got it from says he bought it direct from TNK a few months back, and i actually just got in touch with guy who stone washed it, and it's not Dave.

Anyway, as i mentioned i did get in touch directly with the guy who did the work. i will copy directly the info he sent me regarding time frame and price. If anyone is further interested in having theirs done, let me know and i'll put you in touch directly.

"The price will be $30 per side (so $60 for the whole handle), that includes shipping and all the prep./finish work. The time frame to complete the knife once I've received the knife(s) is about 3-5 days per knife."
