So it is finally done. My long awaited neo tribal hawk and knife courtesy of Storm Crow at Helm Forge are on there way. I will post more in hand and review once they arrive. I think they look great and he really out did himself with this pair. These are his pics but I am too excited to not post em.

Whoah, hopefully refund season gives me a bit of spare change for a set like this. Beautiful blades, congrats!

Very nice. What's the story on the grip material...just a bit to far away in the pics to make out any detail? Can we assume it's some type of leather?

Or possibly hemp cord what with the Turks head knots.

Yes, they are epoxied infused hemp wrap over leather finished with a Turks head knot

Hah! You beat me to it. :) I'll see if I can post bigger versions of the same pics later this evening.

The handles have a leather slab on either side of the tang to build up the bulk under the wrap. The edges of the leather are heavily beveled to keep the corners of the handle from being square. Hemp cord is wrapped on top, then three-strand Turk's head knots in round black leather cord over the ends, then the whole wrap construction is heavily dosed with marine epoxy, making a composition material in place on the tang. After it's set up, I lightly sand the hemp and give it some Howard's Feed N Wax.

More details when I post the pics.

Ok, same pics but maybe larger. The 'hawk is a 15" War Chief in 1/4" 4140, with the top and bottom rivet holes left exposed to allow for lanyard options. The knife is forged from 1/4" x 1 1/4" 80CrV2, with a 7" blade and a false edge on the clip. Both have hemp-over leather handle wraps and black oxide finish on the steel. Shaw11b will be making his own sheaths.

So the blades arrived today, and I must say that James, you are a master of your craft. You took and idea and knocked it out of the park. The balance of the knife is perfect, the handle fits my tiny girly hands perfect. It also lends itself to allow me to get a decent chop with it. I love it. I'm glad you moved away from the durabake on the Hawks. The new finish is beautiful. The handles feel great and very grippy. I love them both. I'm allready starting to save for a small companion knife and a full size Axe. If anyone needs a beautiful functional Blade look no further than Helm Forge. I'll post pics soon.
