i really like it i went on a ocean camping trip for 5 days and took that think in the water every day all day just tied it to my shorts when i was diving...... but it did rust on the 1 where it says H1 on the blade everywhere else is fine...... is this rust or something else? it sure looked like rust...... cleans fish great and is a great water knife i love not having to worry about it maintenance wise.

many said the same thing. Some suspected its leftover debris from etching the 1. Try wiping it off, it should not occur again
I've yet to bring min out yet. So looking forward to this weekend though :D

It is rust, but it is the stuff used to darken the laser etch that is rusting, not the H-1. It should wipe right off, and once that is all gone, it should not reappear.

Just picked a Tasman up in trade. It is the slightly older pinned model, but LNIB, and I'm really, really digging the thing. It flips out and closes beautifully, I think because of the unlined FRN handles and corresponding weight bias on the blade. I'm a real Delica 4 fan, but the last few days when I've been deciding between my Delica and new Chaparral, it's this I'm clipping in my pocket.

Fun stuff. I would love to hear someone more experienced discuss the whole hawkbill thing, it's pluses and minuses, ETC.

yep, as PassinBy said, it's leftover from the tooling to etch it/stamp it/tool it, however it's done. Sal has commented about this on the spyderco forum or his site. google will show you his exact words on the subject.

Hah, FA you just keep buying new knives, don't you?

I really want something in H1 just to try it out. Would be nice to to have a spydie as a fishing knife w/o worrying about rust! (Even though my Mora does a GREAT job..)

Glad to hear H1 is living up to the hype sadly I have no use for such a knife seeing as I don't live anywear near salt water but I still have an H1 ladybug on my keyring anyways.

I just got one thing to say....I'm jealous :D

Awesome knife man!

like i said it is a great knife but there were some small chips after a while i figure the sand in the ocean..... nothing serious they sharpened out back to a razor edge... u gotta expect chips in the blade if its a water knife
