I was looking through the new Blade and saw a couple knives that looked handy. Large handles and small (by comparison) blade. LOTS of control of the blade with that big ole handle. But they were fixed blades.
I seldom carry a fixed blade, but wondered what I could figger out for a folder.
Thought a bit and remembered that my One Hand Trekker SAK has about the most grip filling handle of any folder I own. Then I got an idea.
Take the blade DOWN.
So this is what I ended up with. Not really worried about the strength of the tip as the knife has a nice locking screwdriver for prying.
Actually, it left plenty of meat for my uses.
Blade is 2 7/8" now.
Thinking of maybe radiusing the tip up a bit, but going to leave it alone and use as is. The tip will probably radius itself if I just sharpen it without taking care not to go off the tip. Actually there is a teensy weentsy bit of radius left from where the filing met the edge anyhow.
Also rounded off that lanyard ring hole that always gouged me when I used the saw.
I kinda like it.
Almost a duplicate of the Delica.

Haha that's awesome man, love it!

I'm going to have to get one of those now, I love modifying SAKs.

I did the same thing to the keyring part on my Climber a week ago, since then I've done it to all my SAKs.

Really, really good idea, very well done, too. That's a great blade shape for delicate, close up work -- just like your rapier-sharp wit! :D

Here's my Diamond studded SAK, I don't take it out much, I'll have to take a better pic of the stone.

Lavan,

Interesting, I have taken mine to the hone to make it a plain edge but I don't think I will go as far as to drastically change the blade shape, yours is very nice though.

If you search around the European Knife Community forum you may find that in France people do things like that with their Opinels, usually shortening the handle too:

Ascoe,

Yes that is a lefty liner lock, this knife has a spring harder than what you normally see in one hand openers, more like a slipjoint spring, so it is usually closed two handed and the liner position doesn't seem too relevant, to me at least.

That is super, um, pointy! It does look like a Spydie a little bit. I like it.

If I'm real lucky, maybe the doc can use it to repair my thumb after all dat filing.

OWWWWWWWie!!!

 ;) :D

Ascoe, they're all like that. Lock on wrong side.
But the configuration is such that if you just push it off with your index finger and don't turn the knife over, it unlocks and you can push it closed on yer pants.
Or stab yerself sometimes.

Lavan, that is a thing of beauty. I gotta ask, though: what file(s) did you use, and how long did it take to do this?

eda-koppo, Just a regular coarse mill bastard. About an hour. SAK steel is sorta like butter to a file. Just taped the profile as a guide an pushed the locked-open knife against the file.
Followed up with Sharpmaker sticks to polish the back. And...round off the sides a bit.

This is the same knife I "de-toothed" a couple years ago. Don't know if de-toothing is necessary for this modification as I don't remember how far back the serrations (?) (if ya can call em dat) actually went.

Lavan, belated thanks for reply. Will try this out, but if I fail, I may be e-mailing you to get it done right....

This thread is over a year old. Pictures are often not kept on their hosts that long. We've made a new forum since then ...
