I got a Tidioute #72 Autumn Gold Bone Wharncliffe and it's a super knife. Great fit and finish, the bone looks very good and the wharnie blade tops it all off.

I'm not sure how I've missed this size of GEC so far but it's an exellent size to carry.

The bone jigging reminds me of the GEC grizzly jigging.

I see they make this in a spear blade also. Looking at this one with the blade closed you'd imagine the blade is a large spear but it's not.

Thanks for sharing. I've been on the fence about acquiring one of this same variety and I think you just pushed me over.

How's the lock up? Every GEC lockback I've seen has up & down wiggle. That drives me nuts.

I also wonder how much up and down play it has. What some people think is unacceptable blade play might be barely noticeable to others.

All the stuff I read about up and down blade play on lockback GECs has held me back from ordering one. Seems to range from "just a tiny bit" to "the usual GEC play". Since I'm restricted to online ordering without being able to hold/feel the actual knife, I think I'll stick to non-lockbacks for now.

glocktenman,
REALLY NICE LOOKING 72.
The jigging on the G.E.C.'s are Great and Beautiful Color too.
What is the closed o.a.l. ?
I have a couple Vipers and I like them ALOT, but Your 72 looks much easier to open.
GOOD SCORE.

Thanks for the pics. I've been looking at #72 lockbacks quite a bit. Seems like a good size for pocket carry.

The lock up has some slight movement up/down. In comparison to two other lock blades I have: Case Russlock - has more up/down "play" and a Tidioute #23L - has less up/down "play" than the #72 here. So, it's all good to me. I have a Pena Zulu Tribe lock blade listed elsewhere on the site and it has no blade "play"! I imagine a custome knife maker has the time, ability and detailed careing to make them perfect. Factory knives maybe not so much. They're all functional to me and I don't believe they'll close on me unless I'm abusing them in some way. We all have our own ideas of acceptable "play" in lock blades and even regular slipjoints and like I stated above I've got lock blades with more and less play.

GOOD SCORE.

It's about 3.75" closed and 6.75 open. Pretty nice carry size IMO.
I've noticed those Vipers. What model number GEC are they? How's the length on them? They're cool looking knives.

glocktenman,
The G.E.C. Viper is #47, 3 7/8" closed, 7" open. It's one of my favorites to carry.
I have one natural stag and one ivory Viper.
There are times that I have try a second time to pinch it open, but that's o.k.
The swedge on the Northfield blade makes it slip a little in my fingers ( stiil O.K. )
Your #72 is a COOL FOLDER.
G.E.C. does their own jigging and it is as GOOD AS IT GETS.
