I picked up a Tidioute model 73 single blade in ebony wood. I saw it on the exchange here and I guess I had to have it. I received it last week but it was not until today that I was able to get some decent photos of it. It is my first GEC and the fit and finish is excellent;my only issue is the back spring puts a dent in the edge when closed. Hopefully I will be able to sharpen the dent out.

Nice looking knife. Yes, the ding/dent should sharpen out with a few sharpenings. In the mean time, close the blade with a gentle hand and it should be ok.

Thank you for the nice comments; it really is a nice knife that sits well in the hand. The walk and talk is stronger than the Queen Copperhead I have been carrying so I wish there was enough blade exposed to pinch it open. Maybe there is a custom in my future with the trapper handle and a clip blade with enough showing to pinch it open.

I am quite impressed with the fit and finish of this GEC; it is much nicer than I was expecting.

I could be wrong, but I thought light and dark stripes are becoming more common in ebony because of newer growth. I thought the dark ebony was more desirable, at least that is what I had heard.

Regardless, that knife looks great. I actually like the contrasting shades in the wood. Nice pickup!

Nice looking knife and it will only get more beautiful with use.

If you don't like that the blade hits the backspring, you can wedge some thick leather into the blade well. I have done it on a few GEC's and am yet to notice any more dent's happening after doing so.

That's a great looking knife. I personally prefer (I think) the striped ebony. While I like the black ebony a lot, I find the striping adds some visual interest to me. You've got a knife that will stand up to hard work, so don't be afraid to use it.

That seems to be an issue with this edition. I got a great deal on one in the Exchange that had the same issue. I had the blade sharpened down, and while the issue with the edge is gone, the spring is still very tight. Makes a great desk knife, I didn't pay much for it, I put a great patina on it. No worries.

Thank you everyone. The streaked ebony caught my eye and sealed the deal for me. I prefer it to the traditional all black ebony wood myself.

actually the streaky ebony is quite common the pure black ebony is rare. beautiful blade nonetheless:thumbup:

I like that streaked ebony, Easyrider. It's more streaked than most and looks great! You picked a fine knife for your first GEC!

For comparison here's a couple 73's of mine … Cocobolo and (a darker) Ebony.

Single blade 73s are a thing of beauty - great choice. I have two on the way myself!
