Hiya folks, this be my first post here. I waited three excrutiating days for my new SOG, and when it finally came (not like I waited 3 weeks, mind you...) I was not disappointed, that's for sure!
Can someone tell me the characteristics of VG10, please? I'll search a bit some more, but I would also like to know what the blade material of the original Tomcat was.
I've carried my Benchmade around for years as my "dress knife"; not a scratch on her. The locking mechanism, which is similar to the SOG, is machined into that blade perfectly whereas I was rather surprised to find that the locking mechanism on the Tomcat is apparently left roughly cast. Also, the thumb grip grooves on the blade spine are roughly cast, as well. Is this a matter of difficulty in machining VG-10 (as opposed to lapping/honing, which can be done to any material, but probably not in intricate, complex shapes like the blade tang lock without great manufacturing cost), or is SOG kinda cheap in their finishing?
Don't get me wrong, this thing is beautiful, and I'm very happy with it. But I like perfection, and finish-wise, it looks like it was brought to the 97th percent mark.
