Got tired of digging out a motor tool
& clearing off a space to use it.

Space to mount two stands; one here.
Made from 2x4's
full width of base (short side) is 21".
Wood uprights are each 12".
Commercial $12 pipe pedestal stand,
3" swivel wheels,
upright supports on the side are not drilled thru,
but 'clamped' in place by threaded rods along the inner surface (not shown)
(and a couple of screws to keep the uprights from 'sliding' if knocked about)

2nd, and better, of two mobile bases made so far

Can I ask the purpose of the tool? Is it just for cut-offs?

Looks nicely done, which I should have expected. Matter of fact I did juat didn't realize it til after I said it.

6" dia cut-off,
metal blade in it now
have used it as 'grinder' by making side by side slots toward profile line
works better than a grinder

Thinking of stacking 3 cutoff wheels on my grinder
for better grinding than grinder wheel gives

might convert this motor to wood cutoff
whichever, need to make a guide to hold the stock
the one that came with was very poor

1st stand has dual 6" grinder & 4"x36? belt (+disk) sander.

Nice work Dean!

Is there some sort of wheel lock on it though? I cant see any?

That would seem a wise move if there isnt?

A Cut off on rolling wheels sounds a bit risky to me! & I take a few chances! ;) :D

cheers,
Spiral

wheel lock
good point

although anything of any size will get clamped down
With nothing on the other end,
right now it needs a couple bricks
more than wheel lock
for whee! prevention

Dean,
If you're looking for a really good grinding wheel to hog off meta lin a hurry, look for a PINK one. Coarse grit (40), very soft bond, Aluminum oxide. The really move metal-even hardened steel. Not joking about the pink part, either.

The colored wheels is usually a brand name marking. It's been a long time now since I've bought grinding wheels but the grit and bond are more indicative of material removal than the color.
I'm not sure since it's been so long but I think it was Norton that made the color wheels so popular so many years ago, but it could've been another major manufacturer. I used to use an Emerald wheel in different grits and bonds that I liked really well! Of course the Emerald Wheel was green in color. I used a 120 grit in a "J" hardness/bond for finish work in finish grinding tools. I used a 40 or 60 grit in a softer bond for roughing tools in by hand.
They also had a Ruby wheel that was red. I don't recall what the pink ones were called though.
There is a problem though if you're not aware, the wheels must be properly dressed or they will just crumble away due to their friability. I bought a brand new 8" emerald wheel in 60 grit one day and an inexperienced apprentice took it down to about a 4" diameter during our 30 minutes lunch.
I was truly pissed as I had just put the wheel on and dressed it just before lunch.:grumpy:
But I wasn't nearly as pissed as my direct boss, the foreman, and the apprentice was damned near fired over that fiasco.
He was told to keep his %$#$%%$#%& hand's off of equipement he knew nothing about!!!!:D

Dean,
I can use a couple of those 3 inch pipe pedestals. Where would I find them, in the plumbing department of Home Depot or Lowe's?

These are 4" diam. bought at Harbor Freight or other local tool discounter.
Depending on 'sale' schedule and store, price varies from $9-$19.
Harbor Freight also sells a taller stronger one with tool shelf for $$.

Bought the 3" wheels for $2.99 each at Big Lots,
These go in most stores for ~$7+ for apparently identical item.

This one is assembled/height adjusted by 2 set-screws top, & 2 bottom.
Once decided on orientation & height,
I drilled a hole thru the pipe to make one set-screw of pair more secure.
Otherwise I figure vibration will lossen them pretty soon.

I'd think plumbing supplier would have steel pipe in various sizes.
Especially a plumbing only store.

I'm thinking next time to make a wood top & bottom myself
(Rather than the provided metal mountings)
to fit to bought pipe.

If not with 1 large pipe (or wood post/rail)
then 3 or 4 smaller pipes close together.

The pre-made is simpler/quicker though, even when adapting it.

Maybe a hole in the floor with a RR-tie set in it.

;)
