My dream gun has always been a full auto MP5 but I could never afford one or justify spending that kind of $$$ for one. So I got the next best thing, an SP-89. Found this beauty at an estate sale at a great price so I snached it up. I'm not sure if it was ever fired as it has no wear at all on the inside parts.
The gun ran 100% using several different types of hollow point and ball ammo in all weights. No failure of any kind. Accuracy was outstanding on a bench rest but firing off hand was very akward. It needs a forward vertical grip and a stock or sling. I just could not get comfortable shooting without those.
Anyway out of time and sorry for the short review! It is too bad these are no longer imported to be enjoyed by everyone.

Here is a 30 round group at 15 yards from a rest.

Wow. Has a lot of the GeeWhiz factor. Cool toy. Even good for camp or home defense. And any homemade movies...

I carried the full-auto version for 3 years in Germany back in the day. They are great, accurate, easy to handle and take care of. The MP5s did have a tendency to cook off rounds if you did any full-auto work though. But the closed bolt set-up (which was a big factor in the cook offs) is what gives them their accuracy.

I used to have a bookmark for a real HK forward grip. I'll see if I can't find it. There are a ton of counterfit versions out there... but this one was the real deal. I'll let you know if I find it.

Enjoy :D

HK doesnt make a bad gun. They just dont know how.

Clearly you've never had the misfortune of owning an SL-7...;)

That SP-89 sure is cool lookin' though. I have no idea what the heck I'd do with one, but I'd sure like the opportunity to own one and figure it out!:D

Congrats on snaggin' a cool gun!

That's a cool gun! Definitely need 2 hands, though. I recommend getting a laser designator so you kin shoot from the hip. :D Full auto is cool, but IMHO overrated -- if you've got a quick trigger finger you should have no problem simulating 3-round bursts. FYI: If you add a stock to a handgun it becomes a NFA Class-III weapon you'll need a license and tax stamp to legally own -- that may also apply to adding a vertical foregrip, so be advised to do yer research.

Since this thread has been resurrected I thought I would add to it. The agency I used to work for bought thousands of HK94s somewhere around 1990. We used them for several years then the Powers That Be decided to go a different direction as far as weaponry is concerned. To the best of my knowledge they have those thousands of guns in storage because supposedly they aren't allowed to sell them. What a waste.

It's been mentioned once but might as well amplify it. Since that firearm is officially a handgun, it would be illegal to add a vertical forward grip. I don't make the rules but I know what they say! Same thing with AR or AK pistols.

That's why I prefer to go the other direction. Start with a legal rifle. In this case, that would be an HK 94. Then file the paperwork and pay your $200 to make it into a legal SBR. The tax stamp comes back and you send the barrel off to be chopped and re-crowned. Probably threaded as well. Then you have a rifle with a submachine gun length barrel, a real stock, and it's legal to add anything you want to the forend.

HK most definitely does make some great guns. I've got two P7's that are a unique design. And I like .45 ACP and have many of them. But the best of the lot (including the various 1911's) is my HK45. Very nearly perfect design.
