Got some new toys over the weekend and i think it is time to review them so here we go.

Lets start small with the leatherman micra(sissors version). I got this little thing for free at an auction that our troop holds with points at camp. It is very light and compact and i like that. I also like how it has the most used tools on it: sissors, tweezers that have already removed ticks, bottle opener (great for the stewarts rootbeer), knife, and screew drivers. The sissors it has are nice and springy and they are also pretty sharp; i must say that i was verry impressed. However when dirt and dust got in them they stopped wanting to spring back but a little mineral oil and they came back. The knife on it was not too sharp out of the box but the sharpmaker fixed that little issue. It is also a great key ring lnife provided you have a bigger key ring,

Now lets bring out the big boy Leatherman Charge TTI. I must say that i am verry impressed with this tool. I love the one-hand opening blades although i wish the saw was onehand opening as well. The lockup is tight and there is no vertical play. The sissors, while they have an interesting way of closing are very nice; they are sharp springy, and that little tab on them is great and really makes them comfortable to use. The can/bottle opener works for opening bottles but is quite tricky. The bit drivers, while i agree the philips and such bits are a wee bit short are quite usefull and i like them. The handles are nowhere near as slippery as most of the other leathermans (leathermen?) that i have handled. The handles and pliers are a bit tight right now but that is no big deal. The serrated blade is proving to be a good addition as it has cut cardboard with ease and the cutting hook on top seems usefull but the jury is still out on it. The sheath it came with is great even though it came stiff, a little breaking in took care of that issue. The pocket clip is also a nifty carry option and when it is not riding in the sheath it will be clipped beside my kulgera.

And now the part you have all been waiting for my review of the clippoint knife on the charge, it is so important that i have made a seperate paragraph. The knife did not come too sharp out of the box, which is a big con to some but not me because after a few minutes on the sharpmaker it is rivalling my kulgera in sharpness. I love the s30v steel on it because in every other knife i have with it it holds an amazing edge. It has absolutely no play at all which is awesome. This is the one and only multitool knife that made me question carrying a dedicated pocket knife, but i dont think i will ever replace a dedicated knife with it. The only major conn i have with the charge is that it is HEAVY, if you weight concious in your edc/work tool choices this is not the multitool for you. That said the weight will not stop me from carrying it.

All in all i am sorry to all of my SAKs. They are great values and verry classy lookin with their red handles but these two multitools will replace them in my edc lineup.

Congrats and nice write up ;)

Most of the time I carry both a SAK and MT, and sometimes just a SAK because they are so light I forget it's there, but with all the stuff I carry, weight can be an issue.

People have been saying plier bases MTs for city carry, SAKs for country, which is interesting, I've yet to need my MT for my camping and hiking though some say when you need it (pliers) they come in handy!

Nice toys. You'll get used to the weight of the Charge. With the pocket clip, it is fine in a jeans pocket, but you'll probably want to use the sheath for anything else.

Totally agree. That pocket clip is the goods. Felt weight is so slight you can forget the Charge is there (until you reach for something in your pocket, that is.) Today, for the first time, I tried pocket clipping to chinos, and although not tightly held like in jeans, it carried well enough (I haven't tried to use the clip on suit or slacks pockets, and don't intend to. What happens in jeans, stays in jeans ;) .) So far, I haven't needed the sheath at all, although if the Charge were my only multitool, I would need one for carrying it plus accessories, at least sometimes.

Instead, even though the same pocket clip works almost equally well on it, often I carry a Surge with all the trimmings (extender, bit kit, detachable file/saw) tucked into a belt sheath. That's my "serious" outfit, while the Charge, without extras, is for EDC.
