My new trunk axe Fiskars X25

I wanted a new beater axe for the trunk (head is starting to loosen). I came across this Fiskars and it should meet my needs. This axe is not really a Junker, but it isn't high end either, so it meets my needs at this particular time. I am on the southern Canadian prairies now and trees are near rare as hens teeth at times. So I find my solace at a nearby lake camp site. And the sawed up dead fall here is pile dumped and embedded in mud or stones. For the last couple of years I have used my big hardware store beater axe to split, as my little axes and hawks can barely do the job. I had the X27 originally but it felt too long and clumsy to me. I have degenerative arthritis in my lower vertebra so a smaller\lighter axe will work for me. I have to go down on one knee to chop anyway as I can't can't take a full body swing. So the smaller axe works in this regard. I'll take the new one out the next time that we have a fire and see how she feels. Actually, the wife and I are thinking about visiting some old friends up in the Boreal forest area. It would be interesting to take it up there for a few swings.

IMO You can't go wrong with that as a beater. Almost zero maintenance except for edge work. Is that one bevel from the edge out to the cheeks?

My real question; How did you do that wrap on those CS hawks?

Looks like stick tape with a bit of cord underneath. Almost exactly how I used to wrap my Lacross stick..lol

Man that takes me back.

I wrapped a piece of para cord tightly in a circle along the shaft, then covered it in hockey tape. One serious grip now I'll tell ya !

Too funny. It's a Hockey thing up here. I also remember playing Lacrosse as a kid in southern Ontario Canada.

I have a X25, IMO a good bit of gear. It can chop & split well.

Cool. I figured that it was a reasonable compromise because of my back. And I simply wanted a forget in the trunk camp fire splitter for regional parks. :)
