Following the good advice of makers on this forum, I got myself a post vise ("étau à pied" in french) instead of a small adjustable vise. I promised to show it off once mounted, so here it is:

I got a smallish one (about 50lbs and 3 1/3 ' tall), in very good shape. I got it mounted close to the garrage wall. I have to do this, there is no space in my garrage for a bench. I left enough space to be able to work on it without hitting the wall while filling or cutting steel with the hacksaw. I was kinda worried about how stable it will be, but it is ROCK SOLID. I made a hole in the concrete for the post and it was a good ideea, it doesn't move at all.
It's been 1 year since I had no bench or vise, and now I can play again :D

Put a 1/4 to1/2" steel plate with a big washer welded to it for a foot plate at the floor (The end of the vise sits inside the washer). If you don't,you will soon have a nice hole in the concrete.
