I went out to the field for 9 days, and before I left, my wife gave me a new ATC VTAC. What a woman. Early Christmas presents rule!

I have had a Cold Steel Vietnam 'hawk for a while, but it was pretty dissapointing. This thing is in a whole different league. The CS version will now be used as a trainer.

I used it to clear thorns out of my OPs on several occasions, clear lines of fire, open MRE's, terrorize privates, and even scored a "safety kill" one night. My next time in Iraq I will use it for all kinds of things. It will be really handy next time around. Now just some comments and questions:

I noticed many people have asked about the edge geometry. I would of course like to have it as sharp as possible, but would that make the edge too prone to damage? If not, I may send it back to have the edge re-ground, at least the bottom hooking edge.

Why is the bottom edge so short? it works really well for alot of chores, and I think it might work even better if it were a little longer and sharper.

The sheath sucks. Where do I get one of those Eagle sheaths that are on the video clip on your website?

Thanks for making an awesome product, at a price a soldier can afford.

Chromechicken! ...love that screen name.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your new VTAC. Glad to see it is serving you well.

If you want your VTAC reground to a thinner edge, yes, it will be more prone to deformation when used against locks, hasps, tempered glass, etc...in other words, stuff that normally gets broken with a blunt instrument. However, it will be more agressive on soft targets.

Get with me offline and I'll give you instructions on sending it in, if that's what you want. I might also have another solution for you.

As for the beard edge, that's the first time we've ever fielded a remark about it's length...will have to think about that one.

As for better sheathing, there are a host of custom sheath resources that can hook you up...check out www.survivalsheath.com or www.k5tactical.com for kydex solutions.

Thanks for your business.

I'm not sure I want it re-ground, but I am considering it. I don't really need it to be razor sharp, I carry a knife or 3 as well. It's just a thought right now. How should I contact you off-line? Call, e-mail? I am curious about your alternative.

Would you consider sharpening and/or lengthening the beard (I didn't know that part had a name)? It comes in really handy when clearing low-lying thorns out of an OP, cutting foliage for a ghillie suit, and probably a ton of other things I havent figured out yet. I think the sharper and/or longer the beard, the more useful (at least in this respect) that part might be.

Y'all should sell t-shirts, hats, or something. I'd buy one or two.

Thanks for the quick response. That tells me something about you and your company.

wouldnt call the lower edge on a vietnam hawk a beard. how about one though.

Andy, if you put a beard on the Next Gen or VTAC, I'll buy more than one. Utility wise, it would be even more useful (if possible). It seems it would look similar to mini Mongol Horse Axe (I can't remember where I've seen this), but very cool and what I've looked for in a combat Tom for quite some time.

Before Deploying I would carry my Tomahawk around on while acting as Staff Duty NCO. I really got my point across to the Privates in the Battallion.

Here in Iraq, I often carry my hawk tucked into my gear. It really seems to get the attention of local nationals. Somehow they seem a little more coorporative(fear factor maybe). One of my team leaders even started a "rumor" amongst our intrepretors about my usage of my hawk. They're always on their toes when I have the Tomahawk out. It actually pretty funny to watch them.

Thanks again Andy for such a wonderful product.

I just received a new VTAC. Very cool. I have no plans to chop down houses with it, or scalp people, but it looks like it could do either of those jobs, and anything in between.

Great product, Andy. I have a lot of respect for you becasue you make yourself available to everyone. Besides reading great reviews about the VTAC I thought that if the President of the company was reachable then he must surely believe in what he makes.

I have been carrying a VTAC in a survivalsheaths rig for three months in Iraq.
I took off the shoulder harness and just attached the sheath to my IBA with small D-rings. It works great, very fast to deploy, but you have to be carefull not to snagg it on things like the humvee turrett. Definitely take it on your next deployment, bro. Hajji's Eyes get really big when they see it.
