I am not certain I just don't have a well worn double bit, but the 28" handle, profile and weight(2.5 pounds roughly) still have me leaning toward a cruiser.
I am used to crappy hardware store handles, my Gransfors Bruks axes, plus a source of well priced but rather simple ash handles so a thin one like this is really something. You guys in the states are lucky to have an abundance of great axe companies, still producing axes and plenty kicking around still, I need to get on ebay and pay the price to get a plumb or a flint edge up here. It's great we had such a company as Walters making great axes here in Canada for many years, but in this day and age people are happy with a chinese axe with a fiberglass handle which might see use a handful of times.
Anyway, without further ado,
Slight tilt, may try re hanging it if I can get the handle off.
Very strange the wedge seems to be a steel chunk of steel with a cap, I thought it was just very dirty wood from sitting in a garage, but when I tried to clean it up to see the wedge I noticed it. May or may not make it easier to get out.
Walters, W barely visible in the pic
Awesome book for scale, worth a read folks!
The blade of this handle is almost sharp, but rounds off nicely toward the swell, I am now sold on thin handles without ever chopping with it.
Forgot to get the end grain but it's aligned perfectly, 10 or 11 rings per inch.
Estwing, came with a crappy old sheath. the edge has been worked on by someone that knew what they were doing, despite the rust it's still rather sharp.
Mystery carver, other side is flat with no cheeks, poll is a bit beat up, I will post a pic of the eye if needed.
Any info on this one?
