Good looking ano, Rick makes a great blade enjoy and congrats!
Eric

Congrats!! I LOVE the blue anodized frame. Rick makes phenomenal knives!

I believe so, but I'm not 100% certain about smooth, but it is definitely CF. Is smooth better?

I don't think that either is better than the other, but I just like the looks of the smooth CF scale better. The textured one doesn't look as good, but has way better purchase. I really like the looks of the blue ano with the CF scale. What's the blade steel?

Okay, I just re-read the ad and it definitely lists the smooth CF. Blade steel, I'm not so sure. Rick's site mentions 3; Duratech 20CV (59-60 HRC), Carpenter CTS-XHP (60-61 HRC) and CPM-S35VN (60-61 HRC). I have a foliage Manix 2 with the Carpenter, but have not worked it at all or sharpened it. I'm guessing the S35VN is a small step up from S30V (of which I own a lot) And Duratech is totally new to me. I suspect I'll be happy with whichever it is. It may answer more questions if I include the ad text. Here is is:

Description

I HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO OWN SEVERAL RICK HINDERER XM-18s OVER THE YEARS AND AM ALWAYS BLOWN AWAY BY THEIR QUALITY AND RUGGEDNESS - ALL WITH BANK VAULT LOCKUPS, PERFECT BLADES AND JUST IDEAL ERGONOMICS IN EVERY WAY.

WITHOUT A DOUBT THIS PARTICULAR BEAUTY IS THE HOLY GRAIL OF XM-18s, A BRAND NEW GENERATION 3 EX-KNIFE SHOW 'SKUNKWORKS' EDITION, FETTLED BY MR. RICK HINDERER HIMSELF - ALL SHARP EDGES AROUND THE CHOIL AND FLIPPER ETC HAVE BEEN DEHORNED, PERFECT 'KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER' OPENING ACTION (I DON'T KNOW HOW HE DOES IT BUT THIS IS THE BEST I'VE ENCOUNTERED IN TEN OR SO XM-18s), YOU JUST HAVE TO STROKE THE FLIPPER AND THE BLADE SNAPS OUT WITH A ROCK SOLID 'TRUST YOUR LIFE WITH IT' LOCKUP - PLEASE SEE THE LAST THREE PHOTOS FOR GOOD CLOSE UP VIEWS.

THIS XM-18 HAS ALL THE BEST COMBO OF GOODIES - A SMOOTH CARBON FIBER SCALE, THE TITANIUM IS ALL ANODIZED BLUE, THE LATEST FLAT IN-HOUSE SCREWS, STONEWASHED SPANTO BLADE - THIS IS A SAFE QUEEN AND HAS NEVER BEEN CARRIED OR USED TO CUT ANYTHING, NOT EVEN AN ENVELOPE. Honestly, I think I just got really lucky that someone with much more knowledge and experience didn't grab this before me. What is it they say, "Some days it's better to be lucky than smart."
