Right, so after waiting a couple weeks and paying a 25% VAT + USD25 in handling fees to the Poastal sevices, my Xm-18 3,5" Spanto flipper is finally in my pocket..
So a few initial thoughts:
First off, I was not really keen at all on this knife.
It is not what I would call a looker (read that as butt ugly imho), nor did the one-sided scale thingy appeal to me at all.
( I know, talking about appearance with a Lanyard like that kinda disqualifies any opinions I might have, huh?)
Well, after reading about it and seeing it compared to other available products out there, I decided to get one despite my initial thoughts on it.
I decided to bring it to work today, where I knew I had to put it thru a variety of tasks.
Opening about 40 boxes containing equipment, flicking on a few cutouts in a dry-wall ceiling that was cut too tight to fit speakers in, scaling insulation on cables, cutting up lunch and whatnot.
It did all this very much to my satisfaction, although the factory edge was really not what I would call sharp.
I quickly honed it to my liking, so no worries there.
The S35VN in this hardness was pretty straight forward to hone.
The ergonomics suited me good, and being a leftie, it was a pleasant surprise to find opening it a breeze with my left hand.
A dab of CRK grease made the flipper do as intented without much force at all, though I think I will use the stud the most for opening it.
So, all in all this was a very pleasant experience, and my views on this product has changed from sceptical to very positive
I look forward to bringing it with me on a fishing trip with my son this weekend!
Here's a quick picture of it during the honing session earlier today.
