I bought my first Benchmade in a year or more. I never owned a Griptilian so I broke down and bought this yellow BM 556 beauty. I like it a lot. Here she is:

The Grips, no matter what color, are well worth the money. Great knives with a great lock up. I really like BMs 154CM. It takes a very good edge. Another plus for the Grips are that they are USA made.

I have a ce full size grip and I like it. I just don't like ce, so I'm trading it. I do really want a yellow mini grip, any chance we can get a reveiw?

I like the yellow, reminds me of my first motorcycle. A Honda Shadow that started red and ended up that color.

I had a 1973 Super Beetle that was black on Yellow too - this knife takes me back for sure ;)

The knife came shaving sharp with a very even grind and the blade is 99% centered. Can't ask for more that that for $60 with 154CM.

Great knife without sticker shock!

I too am very partial to yellow handles (takes the tactical look outta equation). With 154CM and the Axis lock I'd say that is a wise acquisition. Congrats.

I hope they make some new Barrages' in yellow...

You bet. To quantify my thoughts, I have large hands. I added some in hand pictures.

My initial thought is the handle feels shorter than a similar sized Spyderco. Probably has to do with the absence of a choil at the ricasso on the Mini Grip. I feel like the knife sits a little too far forward in my hand in order to get my index finger in the handle choil. It feels like my pinky finger needs something to grab on to. Sort of like firing a Kel Tec P3AT without a grip extension on the magazine. If you just close your hand and not think about it, it works very well though so this impression is probably more of a BM versus Spyderco thought. The knife can seem blade heavy when you are moving it around in your hand but when I place my index finger in the handle choil the knife balances perfectly right where it's supposed to.

The action is exactly what you expect from any Axis lock. Smooth and fast. Super solid lock up with no blade play in any direction. The fit and finish is top notch. I've seen worse in $200 knives. I feel like the Mini Grip is more than the sum of its parts if that means anything. There are a couple of injection nipple remnants on the Zytel at the heel end of each scale but they are to be expected and are smooth and don't need to be filed or cut down. I feel like the Zytel handles feel much stronger than you would think they are. I can't really get any flex bare handed when I torque the blade or squeeze the knife in my hands. It's stronger than I am without using some form of leverage that I'm not willing to test on my knife :D I consider this a light duty EDC anyway.

I love the blade finish. No cheesy bead blast here. Nice.

I'd prefer to have the lanyard hole all the way to the back end of the handle (see last picture below for back screw location) rather than where they put it but I probably won't use a lanyard on this knife anyway. I only have a few knives with a lanyard. I assume the lanyard hole is placed where it is in order to keep the heel end screw where it is. Probably to maintain strength and integrity in a hollow Zytel handle. Maybe not though . . .

The blade grind is very even and was shaving sharp out of the box. Not much toothiness either. A nice fine edge that really came alive with a few strokes on a 1200 rod and a loaded strop. The knife can't get much real world sharper than it is after 2 minutes on the rods and strop. I love this blade profile for EDC.

Obviously the Mini Grip is a very light weight EDC. I suppose it's a little wider than some of its competitors when you add the clip into the overall width but I don't even know I'm carrying a knife in my pocket when it's there so that argument is moot IMHO.

Overall, this is a very fine sheeple friendly, light duty EDC that I will certainly keep in my rotation. It's a great value that works really well plus you get a road worthy steel and a world class locking mechanism for $60, made in the USA.

The yellow mini is beautiful. The green isn't too shabby either. Congrats and enjoy:thumbup: It's a heck of a nice knife for EDC.

Reminds me of the oval-hole mini grip I got my sister on her 9th birthday! Funny enough she was wearing yellow that day, so the knife matched!

Reeek, I like the sheep's foot style a lot, the tip is still pointy enough for me. As far as the hole, I see no difference in opening the knife, thumbstud or hole, due to the axis lock and overall jewel like opening of these knives.

I have been wanting a blue or yellow mini grip for the longest time and I keep passing it on the list... I think these pictures put me over the top, and the next order I make, I have to add it to the cart. Thanks!

It's the least we can do:D

Yeah! So take that! :)

I predict you'll really like it . . .

my old man loves my mini-grip, but hates the color. he calls it smurf blue. I love the off colored grips. Get one they are awesome

Probably a "duh" question but-can the clip be reveresed for blade down carry? If it keeps up I may have to learn the blade up carry but it just doesn't work well for me.
