My newest khukuri display idea....

I have made a few wood khukuri display stands, all of which are loosely based on the types sold by the khukuri houses in Nepal.

I was recently thinking of methods in which one could be used for displaying anywhere from 12" to 18" bladed models. This is the latest version I came up with, which again is loosely based on the common Nepalese versions, but made in the good ole USA ;)

A pretty simply made, yet functional display :)

Looks good, Jimmy. Got a picture of it with a khuk and scabbard on it?

No, I don't :(

But...... you gave me an idea. Being that I made this display without actually basing it on any one khukuri knife model, size, or design, I went next door to my neighbor and asked him to lend me his Khukuri House Service #1 model.

His knife is one of the ones that I ordered and was going to send back to Khukuri House USA. When my neighbor realized that I was sending both the Service #1 & #2 back for a refund, he asked me if he could keep the Service #1.
I agreed, he gave me the money for it, and Service #2 went back to Khukuri House USA.

Allow me 15 minutes or so to take a picture of my neighbor's knife placed on my new display.

As Arnold would say..... "I'll be back" ;)

Okay, here it is:

It is as I had hoped, except that I don't believe it would work for blade sizes as big as I had estimated. The knife blade shown in the display is about 10.5", so maybe my thinking that it would work for sizes up to 18" was wishful thinking.
If I were to make the exact same display, but add at least 1" to the length of the blade arms, it would probably then be ideal for longer blades.

Overall though, I feel the basic plan worked out pretty well.

I like that idea for one khuk, but most of these guys have dozens. I have an idea for making a display for multiple/many khuks. Its much like a vertical gun rack. The Khuk is held vertically in a row of slots point down and edge inward. The scabbards are displayed below, vertically also, on a shelf or bin with a strip of wood (or plexiglass) across the front of them to hold them up. This would allow some of our more prolific collectors to show off a dozen or so in a roughly 1-2' x 3.5-4.5' wall mounted rack. I also worry about children getting to a table mounted stand, and this rack could be mounted high enough on the wall to prevent easy access by a child. I could even design in a strip of wood or a brass bar that would prevent removing the knives by blocking access to the slot and could be padlocked.

My father in law finally left :D this AM (6 wk visit:eek: ) so I plan to try to work out this design soon and will report back. I'll probably also be selling the ones I make because my wife would never allow me to hang knives on the walls of my house.

That sounds like a great idea :)

My current intentions are to place khukuri knives in various areas of my home. I may later purchase or build a multiple piece display case as well, that is if I later decide to centralize some of my planned upcoming khukuri purchases.

Oh, by the way, I don't want you to think that I'm one track minded when it comes to displaying items. You have probably seen my posts showing some of my other display ideas, but just in case you have not, here's another item I own that I placed inside a display I custom built:

It is high on the wall, it is glass and wood enclosed, it has a 4 watt light bulb to help control interior moisture content, and is lightly locked with a small padlock (which basically signals curious folks to not touch).

Who knows, down the road I may do some nice displays for any special khukuris that I may obtain ;)

I did not know that King Arthur carried a khukuri, but now that I do, that sounds like a great idea...... LOL! :)
