Hi guys! Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. We got three PCs lanned-up here at the house, and the new printer had some weird fatal error buried deep, and it buggered-up everything. Linda did her magic and finally we are all up and running again. I had the photos, but I just couldn't get to them. Anyway here's some pics of the tapper I'll be making for sale to the general public.
Here it is. The shaft is made of stainless precision-ground drill rod, and the base is from 6061 aluminum.
The top view. The shaft glides effortlessly in the bore. The bore bushing is made from nylatron. This setup makes is really easy to feel every thread you form, but also gives a high degree of precision because the rigidity and solidness of it.
The business end. The hole in the end is sized to fit everything up to 4-40 tap size. The tap is held gently in place via a small set screw.
Here's a 3/4 view. When I begin to offer these for sale, I will probably just buy some knurled knobs. I'll use the ones I made until I run out, but it took me forever to make only ten of them! I always hated knurling, but it does make for a nice product!
Mind you, I'm not advertising these for sale, but because many of you have expressed the desire to have one, I will say that they will be available sometime this Spring, and at that time I'll post them both on my website and in the for sale forums. Holler if you guys have questions.
