Posting all about this knife everywhere, then remembered, "Gotta show my friends on the Randall forum" lol. So here ya go guys. This knife is a stout little brute. It's a working knife, here are a few user pics from last night.

Don't Randalls look so good when dirty and used? :D

RMK knives are made to be used. IMO the Fireman is one of the toughest. Great choice for a user.

That is true. This is Randall #5 for me and one of my faves so far. Actually they're all favorites, haha. :p Since I got my first Randall, an 18, I knew they were meant to be in the woods, skinning game or wherever there is knife work to be found.

What steel if that Fireman made from?

Whichever stainless Randall uses, 440 b or c I think.

I'm not sure what kind of grind it has either, besides thick, maybe Sheldon will chime in.

ETA: I'm doing a 4" or less knife shootout/review. Comparing this Randall to the TOPS Xcest and Kabar Gamestalker. Covering all the price points. I'll put a link to it once I'm finished with it here, maybe tomorrow or next day.

My understanding is that RMK uses either 440 B or C steel for their forged stainless steel blades - it's a basic steel make-up with given tolerances; i.e. if the steel ordered falls within the tolerance range, leaning towards C, it could be either. The grind used on the Fireman Special is commonly referred to as a Scandi grind, similar to that used on Scandinavian Puukko type knives. It's a wicked strong blade edge...

I owned this Search and Rescue variant for a bit; it's gone now...

Thanks for the info, Shel, was eyeing up that S&R version you had, then saw "sold". I never would've guessed it was a scandi.

I think I'll sharpen it to a "zero degree" bevel or whatever the scandi guys call it when there is no secondary bevel.

It's definetly tough as nails, or tougher. :D

Outstanding linked post, thanks for sharing that! Sucks about the broken Ka-Bar, but a good reminder why (at least) two knives should always be carried into the wild...

I'm still waiting on mine....

I thinks it's down to 2 years now.... :D

Found a piece of "Old Yeller" for the grip, BP style, lanyard hole and a NS guard. Brown sheath.

You'll notice when Firemen show up, they don't last very long.

Hey now, wait a minute...I'm still around a dozen years later! ;)
