so i decided on either 11 or 14. i really like 9, but right now i'm low on coins. i know the right answer is "get both".. but once again, low on coins.

which one should i get and why? i drink beer, long neck usually, but that should not automatically put 11 on the lead, i won't carry beer to the camping and so on. and i don't edc fixed blade.

I'd get the 14. I like that the handle is a little longer and when you have a little extra dough, the zytel scales are great for making it feel like a much larger tool.

3 finger or 4 finger?

hmm.. good question. only 3 finger knife i have is tiny one that my father got me when i was a kid. i gave that to my son. never didn't much with it other than shaving some sticks. it wasn't all that uncomfortable. but 4 fingers will be more comfortable. with BK24 coming out soon, maybe i'll wait for that.

My vote, BK14. BK11 is great too but the angles on the end of the handle (bottle opener) tend to annoy my grip. Also, I like the small increase in grip length. As for the bottle opener, if I am hitting it hard a reg bottle opener works better than the 11 anyways. If it is just for one or two pops, the back of my bk14, lighter, or anything else can work, with just a little leverage. As for scales... I am more than happy with the affordable zytel ones (usually i use the black pair but its nice to have the orange ones too for fishing and stuff). If cosmetics are important to you, you can always pick up some micarta ones. 550 chord will work for the time being until u get some more dough. Good luck you will be happy either way. Opinions vary, my friend is die hard bk11. Hell, for the price can't go wrong with a few 11's and a few 14's.

I tried both, and neither worked for me. Too small to fit in the hand. BK15 is much nicer (or the tweener of your choice).

14 absolutely, the extra handle real estate is worth losing a bottle opener (plus I can open a bottle in more ways than I care to count, that don't include a bottle opener)

BK24 will be some time in coming to the general populace. Hate to say it, but it will be cold and days will be short getting longer by the time we seem them available for purchase through the normal dealer network.

I'm one of the privileged few, and a couple of Beckerheads will be privileged as well, but for the most part, keep in mind, the Bk24 will cost substantially more.

Just some FYI.

I love my BK14 though.

Personally I prefer the 14 with the black/orange scales or a paracord wrap. When I was debating between the 11 and 14 to me it looked like the difference would be negligible. But when I held the 11 and then the 14 the 11 went back in the case and the 14 went home with me. It just feels better to me in hand when using it with that little bit of extra grip.

14 for sure. I've found it more comfortable than the 11, particularly with a wrap. And for an extra $15 you can either get two sets of zytel handles (nice - be careful of over-torquing) or the ESEE micarta (requires minor shaving of the insert to reduce its size).
