So I have two German Shepherds. An expensive hobby if its own right... I was at the trainers with Barrett, my 7 month old male GSD. And we discovered that one of his molars was broken. So guess who gets to spend the knife purchase stash on doggie dental work :(

I just gotta keep thinking..."Good things come to those who wait" right?

Bummer on both ends of that deal bro! Hope the pooch will be aight. If Andy's recent work is any indicator...you'll have plenty of killer choices in the near future!

That stinks. I love my dog, but I hate spending $ at the vet. Luckily we have a good country vet who doesn't overbill and rack up little charges. City vets are a lot like used car salesmen. Not to be trusted.

One vet I know tries to charge for a "wellness exam" every time , basically a couple pats and 50 bucks later on top of any real charges. Bs

I always feel like I get ripped off when I go to the vet. And I still drive over 30 minutes to get to the guy...

My vet is in between some things I feel are priced too low while other things are outrageous. For example he charges 17 bucks to clip toe nails and then charges 40 bucks for total eval, cleaning and treating my puppy when he got cut up when my 2 yr old GSD attacked him It was an emergency visit too. I don't understand sometimes. lol

No doggie dental needed at this point. My Bank Account unpuckered a little bit this morning

Very true. Last October I had a female bulldog overexert herself while chasing sun rays in the living room. She declined quickly and was rushed to the vet, 30 minutes and $1,700 later I was told that she had to be put down. Looking at the bill, it read like an exercise in documenting minutia. Everything from cotton balls to tape was billed.

You're dog will be just fine, I have had some fence-post-fighting dogs in the past that lived into old age looking like jack-o-lanterns. Good luck with the vet though.

Somehow I missed your last post... but the sentiment is the same, don't worry too much about it. :-)

I've got a chip on my shoulder about vets though. Keep in mind I was raised in the country. There is just a different attitude about dogs in the country. More utilitarian maybe. For years, I went to the feed store, bought a 7 in 1 puppy vaccine, and wormers and treated my own dog to everything but rabies. Thanks to my govt that one has to be registered. Usually spent under $10 on the vaccine and wormer pills. (Dogs breath would smell like gasoline.) My neighbor recently spent $5K recently on hip surgery for her 12 year old Husky (in the south). Um. That dog only lived one more year. No me. Asprin till its too much and you look miserable, then time to do the right thing and put the dog down. Lady made it 12 years, which is great for a Boxer. When it was her time, I called around. $130 to put her down and dispose of the body everywhere but at my vet. $30 at my vet. The drawback, and the reason for the calls is that at my vet, you have to wait. No appointments. Also, no new clients for over 7 years. Packed, but fair. Of course, I walked into the place, obviously tore up, and they let me back without the wait. I was glad. Its harder to loose dogs than people sometimes.

You go to the vet. They force a heartworm check on you. Then, if your dog has heartworms, what gets prescribed? The damn pills that prevent and treat heartworms. Whats the exam for?

Don't even get me started on boarding dogs at the vet.

I went into the appointment today fully expecting to go into debt a little deeper. Luckily my vet pretty much said unless its bothering him and it looks like it might be rotting we won't do anything for it because its a very tough repair. Sounds good to me. Barrett got some doggie treats and we left. I spent more for McDonalds breakfast than I did for him this morning. My other GSD that lil girl cost me $250 bucks this morning and she stole half of my hashbrowns! lol
