hello everyone

i was looking for a new knife to buy for a friend in the T.A and i was wondering which you thought was a better knife:-
-emerson hd7
-extrema ratio fulcrum IId

i am new to the forum and i am going to be paying very careful attention to your replys as there are no good knife shops in england at all so i buy knives without getting a chance to view them.

i am looking forward to revieving all of your opinions :D

Welcome to BF!!!How much money do you want to spend? That would help give us an idea, then we can make better suggestions.

around the 200-300 dollar mark

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

You sure are starting out ambitious. Those are all good knives, the ones you were thinkiing of and the ones the others suggested.

I like tanto blades myself but ... they aren't considered the most generally useful. The Strider SnG comes in tanto or drop point, but the Emerson and Extrema Ratio you mentioned are only tanto. And the Emerson chisel grind can be hard to use for general utility purposes.

Except in the most general sense, there is no such thing as "the" better knife, since all the good ones, expensive or not, can have their strong points. Sometimes less IS more, if you don't want to worry about damaging or losing an expensive knife, or prefer one that's lighter-weight and more compact.

In that case, a Spyderco Endura 4 would beat out the Extrema Ratio. The Benchmade axis lock knives are also a fine compromise, being light and strong, and like the Spyderco, are excellent cutters.
