I currently have a LM Wave and a SwissTool RS... You can never have too many !!! I've narrowed the short list down to 3 finalists ...

1. Kershaw Multitool
2. SOG Powerlock
3. Gerber Evolution

any comments / concerns / likes / dislikes / reliabitity problems would be appreciated.

even though this isn't on your list...

if you liked your leatherman wave, than you wouldn't mind the leatherman ti-charge. Its just basically an upgrade of the wave.

Which ever one you choose i bet you go back to using the swisstool , they are so well made :)

If I was to buy three multi's, I'd firstly choose the swisstool plus, then the old wave (I don't like the charge bit drivers), and at last, a SOG Powerlock for the compound leverage pliers, or a Leatherman Crunch for the locking pliers. I don't know about the Kershaw, but for the same kind of multitool, the Leatherman Crunch has a good reputation.

If you need locking pliers, the LM crunch is very good and folds up much more than the kershaw.

Given your list, I would try the SOG Powerlock. Gerbers seem wimpy (never had an evolution though) and the Kershaw does not fold compactly.

The Leatherman Charge Ti will knock your socks off. After you put one in your hand and compare it to the old Wave you will know what I am talking about.

I currently EDC a SOG PowerLock, and it is a heavy duty tool. However, I did break one of the plier jaws off trying to pull a large nail. The tool was swiftly replaced by SOG, so they do stand behind their warranty.

I also have a Gerber Legend 800, and it is a great tool as well.

I finally handled a Charge Ti and the new Wave on Friday, and I'm not quite sure the Charge is worth the extra money. I do like the fact that the new wave shares the new style pliers with the Charge. My biggest problem with the old wave was if you torqued the tool even slightly while using the pliers, the whole thing flexed. I had one of those for a very short time before I dumped it.

I'm on the passaround list for the Charge, so after I put it through its paces, we'll see if it is worth purchasing.

Another good, heavy duty tool is the Leatherman Supertool 200.

I picked up an SOG Powerlock model "60" AND a SwissTool CS Plus. I sold my LM Wave on eBay. I prefer the Victorinox quality above that of the LM.
