Eric just sent me some pictures of a 110 he just finished for me. It has mammoth ivory scales NS bolsters and a mirror polished blade. This is going to have wolly mammoths as the subject and perhaps engraved bolsters.

Great job Eric, thank you.

Eric would have to answer that about removing the signature. It may have been a leftover blade with out it to begin with, I don't know. It was added to my frame, the Founders Editions came with brass bolsters. I sent Eric an everyday 110 that had NS bolsters to work with.

Well now i feel stupid,i thought those were brass bolsters, sometimes i make that mistake ,when both are polished up nice,i have a hard time telling the difference in pics.

Don't feel stupid! I sometimes have the same problem. If the lighting is right, at times the brass does look silver.

I've also thought about and discussed briefly with Leesa, the possibility of doing one on a black background. Leesa thinks it could be done (she has white ink) so I was thinking of perhaps using this Kalinga with the smooth buffalo horn scales. What do you think?

I'm willing for you to take the risk so we can drool:D If Leesa say it can probalbly be done, I'd bet with her.

White scrimshaw on black - and seeing her work - could look fantastic! I'd say it'd be well worth the risks. "Innovation can not occur without risk."

If it doesn't pan out, you can always have Buck finish it down to black again or just buy another.

Go for it :)

The idea for doing it came to me while looking at this thing. I believe it's an Indian totem or something made from black stone with the designs scratched into it. Forgive the lousy picture, it's really hard to get one with no reflections in it.

Wow I drooled on my lap top and BUZZZZ.Gotta get a DROOL BUCKET and head to the desk top pc.

Here's a couple of preliminary sketches from Leesa of what will be on one side the mammoth ivory 110. The sabre toothed cat and the mammoth will be facing each other (and in the proper scale). The other sides art work is still being decided, but the bolsters are going to be engraved similar to how the elephant one is done.

When we get around to the Kalinga, it will probably be done with a water or cape buffalo theme. Or maybe an American Bison and Indian theme.

Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to this one. Here's what (or something similar) may go on the other side.

Can't wait to see the completed knife. I've also wondered what the buff horn and some colored ink would look like. I think Leesa could do the scrim work as it would leave a scratch like your little art work, then could have the scrim filled in with color...maybe?

Hmmm, I'll have to discuss that with her. I've seen some colored scrim but only on a white or ivory background. Since I'm far from done with these, a full color one just might be in the future.
