Howdy all! Not too long ago I posted about how much I love my little sub 3 inch folders, and I'm interested in trying out another small folder. I earned a little extra spending money recently and I'd like to use it to treat myself to a knife (of course). After picking up a magic hat sampler case and a tin of Boswell's Northwoods, I have around 45 bucks I can spend on my next bladed purchase. I prefer knives that are fairly short, 3 1/4 inch or under is best, but other than that I'm not going to set many parameters on this one.

Below is a picture of the small knives I already own/the knives I carry a lot so obviously not any of these

I'll be carrying it as a partner to the M. Miller custom gifted to me by the great Jackknife (which I just love to share pictures of because it's so purty  )

Some models I've been currently looking at are the buck lancer, the case tiny trapper, the case tuxedo, the case small stockman, and the case mini copperhead. If you have any recommendations about these knives or others in the small sub-$45 category I'd love to hear them. Many thanks!

I'd go with a Buck 309 companion. After long association with an old friend and co-worker that has one, I grew to have great respect for the 309. For a period of time measured in decades, I watched Wayne do all manor of things with his little Buck knife, and it never failed. Wayne is typical of non knife nut people who know they need a knife, but don't want to go overboard with it. He had a couple junk pen knifes that usually fell apart until his wife gave him the Buck. The Buck became his knife, to the extent that when it got knocked of the rail of a crabbing pier in Solomans Maryland, Wayne took off his shirt and sneakers, emptied his pockets and went over the rail into 6 to 8 feet of water to get it back.

The Buck 309's must be a heck of a knife to inspire that kind of loyalty.:D

I've noticed the companion gets more attention than the lancer, I'll have to give it a look-over for sure. Sure is a purty shape

The mini copperhead is a wonderful knife. You can get one like mine for $40 shipped at the right place.

The amber bone version I have shown a lot and is my most carried knife since I got it in 2010 is harder to find.

I recommend them.

the only really small knife i have much experience with is one of the tiny toothpick types. mine is made by queen and is a real nice little knife.

I really like the copperheads: I think they're good looking (a lot like the peanut) but on a single spring and with a wharncliffe/pen combo. That's definitely one of the models I'm very tempted by. Thanks for your two cents!

You need a GEC knife in your collection! Save just a little more & you could get a little #6 Pemberton or a little#25 little jack. I got a 309 Companion off the bay for like $25 shipped. I love the size & overall function of it but horrible bladeplay so I need to send it in for warranty repair l
