So I thought I could let you see what I been up to.

alittle paper cutting and shaving

time to chop this 2x4

I suppose I could have finished but the split length wise was making it very difficuly, absorbing most of the blow. Not to self next time cut closer to the vise, mostly I was tring to save the 2x4 for more cutting later

stil cuts the paper with some difficulty

now a fresh piece of sassafras

the only damage was due to my poor hammering out of square with the spine

The tomatoes cut very nice, despite the thick spine and rotten fleshy tomatoes didn't teat any. I did do some hanging rope cutting. Something old and dirty from the basement probably alittle under an inch. I sailed thruogh nicely though. Hope you guys enjoyed and thanks for looking.

Great pics. I am really impressed with the toughness of O1. It seems to be a very underrated steel in that category.

Great review, thanks for that. What were you battoning the spine with to damage the steel?

I used a stone hammer aprox 4/5 pounder(its in the first pic in my scecond post. I wouldn't recomend it unless you dont really care about the finish on the knife, or you can fix it easy with you KMG.:D

Glad you guys liked it I'll post more like these when I can.

Are you willing to give details about the heat treatment? How'd the wrap handle hold up during all the work? Is that the final handle, or just a quickie for testing?

The handle wrap wasn't to bad during testing, but I wouldn't keep. This isn't the final handle, only for testing, I just put on some zebra wood. I won't be able to finish until maybe tuesday, but will post when done.

Paul, good for you for Testing for the sake of learning. But also Thanks for posting pics and descriptions, I have always liked O-1 and appreciate its strong points.

Very nice large knife design, I'd like to see some of your smaller designs in the same steel.

Paul,

That is a very impressive test and I really like that design. Looks like a hellavu cutter and a real tough bastard all round.
