Here's where I used to fish when I lived in Nepal. If you can see the white arrow across the lake by the big tree that was my spot. There was shade there and fish and I both liked it. However, I'm sorry to report that my failures outweighed my successes and I often ended up buying fish from local fishermen who were more adept at catching fish than me.

In the center background you can see Mt. Machapuchare (fishtail) at about 7000 meters. It is the smallest of any of the neighboring peaks but looks taller because it is closer to the camera. The other peaks are the Annapurna peaks which range from Annapurna 1 at 8091 meteres to Annapurna South at 7219 meters.

What has this to do with khukuris? The fish were butchered with a khukuri.

I'm assuming this is by Pokhara. Those banks look familiar. Did you actually settle down there for a while or just visit occasionally?

Steven, I have mixed emotions about it. As with the kamis, Nepal and I have a love-hate relationship going.

Howard, I knew you wouldn't miss it. Yangdu and I used to "get away" to Pokhara on a regular basis.

Khukuri FAQ

Mt. Everest 29035 ft. 8850 m.
Mt. Denali (McKinley) 20320 ft. 6194 m.
Mt. Whitney 14494 ft. 4418 m.

Mt. Everest is just over twice the altitude of Mt. Whitney (highest point in the lower 48).

Though it's the other side of Indian subcontinent, the scene looks quite a "fountains of paradise" , with its top very close to heaven.

What kind of tackle Uncle Bill?
A willow pole with an AK or a BAS on a string?
It's a beatiful spot. I wish it wasn't half a world away.

Could you repost that pic without the arrow? I'd like to add it to my collection of landscape pictures.

Yes, please, Uncle Bill - I second Cougar's request. I think that needs to be the new wallpaper for my desktop.
