My old new hawk... (pic heavy)

Hey guys,
I've been lurking around the hawk subforum a lot recently and haven't posted much. Here's something I've been working on recently, and finally (mostly) finished it up today.

It's originally a hawk made by Keith Johnson (KRJ) at Great River Forge. A lot of you guys probably remember that he used to sell affordable forged hawks on the maker's forum for around $40. After starting this project, I emailed him asking him if he could make me a spike hawk, but unfortunately for me he only makes slipjoints now.

Anyway, I started by removing the head and convexing the edge with by 1x30" belt sander. I then took off a bit of steel at the beard to make a spike more capable of hooking and puncturing if necessary. The beard has a very SLIGHT edge to it, nothing you could cut yourself on though. More on this slight mod later. I bought some of the Krylon camo spray paint colors (OD green, light tan, and brown) and used a mesh net to give the head and haft contrasting mesh camo patterns. I call this thing the rattlesnake hawk because of the paint job. Lastly, after painting, I used my brand new paper wheel system to hone the edge and beard to sharpness. But without further delay, here are the pictures:

What do you guys think? Honest opinions are more than welcome!

I think in the future I'm going to refrain from using the same camo pattern for the haft and head in order to get a more two-tone look.

What's left for me to do:
-Cord wrap the haft in 2 places... right below the head for a bit of overstrike protection and farther down for a hand grip and possible lanyard.
-Hone the edge a little more. It pops hair in some areas but I need to work on my skills with that new paper wheel. It gets stuff SHARP but I need to do my part.
-Possibly thin down the spike a bit in order for the beard to be nasty sharp as well. Opinions on this? I don't want to significantly weaken the spike.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed! Most of my inspiration came from the CS Trail Hawk thread. I'm also working on one of those :D

I like the mods. Nice job on the grinds and paint. Wolf Creek Forge makes a similiar hawk like this now. You planning on making a sheath as well?

I really like your hawk and mods. I like the paint job, especially for a tactical hawk. Very different from what we usually see here.

Thanks for the responses. I'm actually on the waiting list for one of the new "economy" hawks from Wolf Creek. I'm really excited for that as well.

I would like to make a kydex sheath for it eventually but don't have any of my kydex stuff at the house right now.
