Got this back in the early 90's, can't remember exactly what year. Used it for a long time then it got put somewhere and somehow forgotten about, for about a decade or so.
Found it languishing in the bottom of a box of stuff recently, cleaned the surface rust off it and sharpened it up and it came up quite nice, certainly shaving sharp.
Thought I might share a few pics. Is the blade of this VG1 does anyone know?

Wow! Nice knife!

I've got the "newer" AUS8 version with the bone breaker. Dunno if I'll ever use that feature, but I'll be damned if it isn't a nice blade. One day I want to be able to EDC it on my belt. One day...

So they have a AUSA with the bone crusher? I thought the bone crusher coincided with the Sam Mai, crap another one to find! I have the new San Mai and two older ones with different script but no bone crusher. The jimping is a different length on the two also.

The AUS8A one with the bone breaker spine is exactly like the San Mai one; the only difference besides the steel used is that the sheath on mine uses velcro instead of a button snap.

Considering getting a new sheath made for it, preferably with a fire steel and a pouch for a small stone. The sheath that comes with it is just not up to par with the knife in my opinion; the finish is all worn and it looks really ugly.
Cold Steel's other leather sheaths are absolutely awesome, however! My favorite knife sheath to date is the one on the R1 Military Classic (I can't believe it was disco'd!). The only thing it doesn't have that I'd like to see is a drainage hole.

Any chance you could post photos of your two older Outdoorsmen with the jimping difference? I have heard that there was at least one variation in the first generation Outdoorsmen but have never seen a photo.
The second generation in Aus8 with the bonebreaker is the hardest to run across and I have only one photo up on the site.
