My only regret about the Manix 1...

I recently acquirred a NIB Manix 1 C95. I absolutely LOVE the knife but I do have one regret. I mistakenly beleived that the one I found was relatively rare and particularly unique because it was completely unused. Being a relative newb to the knife world and didn't realize that people actually buy knives in quantity in order to speculate on the potential rise in price. I realize now that I probably overpaid at $170 USD. Dang! I won't make that mistake again.

$170 is a good price for a popular knife that has been discontinued for a while. It's also quite a bit less than the original MSRP of the knife. I would say you got a pretty good deal really.

Overpaid? Not hardly. I've seen them go for much higher than that.

I didn't really word my comment very well. I don't think I got ripped off or anything. It's just that I probably shouldn't have used ebay to get a sense of the value because, after looking into past sales here and on Knife-BST.com, it seems I probably could have done better if I hadn't been under the impression that a NIB specimen was an unusually good find. Anyway, the way the knife world works is a little different than the worlds I'm used to frequenting.

I still remember C95 prices few buck over $100, but that was gone many years ago. Currently I saw NIB C95 PE going up to $100 more than you paid. You cannot use as a reference couple years old prices for discontinued knives. Especially C95, which became hot after was dropped from production.

My factory "second" C95 purchased at the annual factory outlet sale a long time ago is still to this day one of my best knife purchases ever. The only reason mine was deemed a "second" - The lock on it was TOO strong  (Sal told me this himself). NOTHING else wrong with it! I think I paid $35 or so. :D The lock works fine for me.

That would qualify the knife as perfect in my bolok too. :)

Yeah, I wish I'd have bought more than one now. It rocks! I haven't hit the outlet sale for a few years now, but I'm going to try this year if I'm not hunting something somewhere.

shut...... up!;)

The last one I saw on Ebay was withdrawn before the auction ended.

It is hard to find one.

Hang on to it - there's going to be remakes :)

New collectors will want it in the future

I wish I had the chance to go to Golden during the 2nds sale, it's coming around again soon. :(

If you don't like it, I bet you can take it to ebay and get at least what you paid for it.

I'm quite sure I'd never sell this knife. It's about as close to perfect as it gets for me. The only thing that I think could be improved might be the lock. Something like the triad lock or the Spyderco ball bearing lock would be awesome. If a C95 Manix 2 was ever built it might give this one a run for the money but, with a 4mm blade thickness, it original might still win out.

Sorry thought I was being gossiped about :p;)

I think the Lg Manix original is one of my favorite folders of all time....no not feel bad about the price..IMHO I prefer the older lockback version over the newer ball cage lock on the manix 2.

congrats J
