Uncle Bill had a table of khukuris at the convention, and one of the first ones that caught my eye was a beautiful horn-handled M-43 by Sher. I've been wanting an M-43 for quite some time, but I was worried that the handle would be too small for my hand. Well, this one fits me perfectly. This is my third khukuri by Sher, and it displays his usual excellent craftsmanship. The balance is great--really feels lively in the hand, even though it's a pretty large khukuri. The handle is exquisitly formed--probably the nicest handle I've ever seen on a khuk. Uncle Bill always says Sher and Kumar make the best handles, and from my limited experience, I would have to agree. This is some of the shiniest horn I've seen with some really beautiful grain. The blade is a bit thinner than I've come to expect from Sher, but still seems plenty strong. I chopped some oak logs, and penetration was very good. The design of the M-43 really puts the weight out towards the tip--great for chopping. No edge damage whatsoever, even after vigorous chopping. Don't know why I even bother to mention this, as I've come to expect incredibly durable edges from HI products. This is my first khuk with steel bolster and chape, and I really like the look. It really contrasts with the black horn and black leather on the scabbard. It makes me feel like I should be wearing it with a tuxedo
I'll probably end up pulling off the chape though, as it has already poked me in the leg about fifty times.
