My own Emerson 'mystery' knife

Seeing the "Mystery Knife" thread reminded me of an Emerson I bought around 1999.

Black blade, 98-style hardware/grind, blade dated '1999'. Box just says "Mil Spec", no other description.

My understanding was that most Mil Specs were green bladed, not black. This knife was my EDC for many years and it still has one of the best actions, custom or production, around.

Anyone have a black Mil Spec?

I am confident it is a 99, but curious if it is a black Mil Spec. The only thing I can find re: differences between the early '99 Commanders and the Mil-Specs are the green coating. My knife has the thick liner/old screw location/different pivot, etc but the difference is in the color of the coating. It was purchased new and came from Emerson as a Mil Spec. Is there a means to distinguish this?

If anyone knows how to definitively tell them apart, please let me know. As much as I like current Emersons these old ones really do have a special feel to them. A great knife to be sure.

I have looked back (BF search, Google) and I don't see much info on these rare beasts. Two images ID'ed as Mil Spec Commanders have green blades but no "Mil-Spec" markings. A previous poster indicated there should be "Mil-Spec" marked on the blade but there was no image in the post and I cannot find any reference showing a Commander blade with these markings.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Maybe send the pics attached to an email to info@Emerson knives.com.

They would be the best to ask.

Thanks dr_fosg8, I will do so. If anyone has a pic of a Mil-Spec, particularly the blade please post.

Thanks again,
Mark
