After a month of staring at Clich's gorgeous BK-5, I couldn't wait anymore and ordered a 5 of my own. While I was at it, I went ahead and got a BK-11 serrated package.

The BK-5 is surprisingly light for such a big blade, but what a cutter! I did some cutting tests with it on cardboard and a piece of free hanging rope. It sliced through both like a razor. After that I ran it though some knife fighting drills. It's not a good blade for thrusting accurately, but for cutting it would be wicked. The 5 moves better in the hand and feels more alive than any other Becker I have. Nice.

I cooked dinner using the 5 last night and tonight, and was surprised how easily such a thick knife could be used for tasks like slicing potatoes and tomatoes. Very nice.

I'm going to love this even more after it's stripped and fisked, with new micarta.

The Necker is getting many kudos from me after today. I used the BK-11 to eat yesterday and today, and wore it at work all day. Man, this thing is useful. The serrations popped poly-banding like a champ, and the blade was great for anything from cutting grilled chicken to slicing stretch film. I even used the bottle opener to open a bottle of Mexican soda at lunch. The micarta scales were worth the price of admission alone. Entirely changes the feel of the knife.

The sheath with the TDI clip is...well...it's not okay for me. I see some kydex in my future. I still haven't decided on whether or not to strip this knife. For now I'm thinking I'll leave it as is, to prevent rust from being in contact with my body all day.

I love these things.

I've EDC'd a stripped BK-14 all summer long, IWB, under my t-shirt. No rust. Don't worry.
