My Para3, Did I use it or abuse it? What do I do next?

I quickly fell in love with my Para 3 in 52100. I carry a knife everywhere and the Para is a favorite. I have a knife in lcn200 and H1 but I really like that Para 3. I started looking for a Siren. I really want one of those.
Anyway, I ran offshore with my dad and didn't think about the knife I had on me, the para. I ended having to get in the water and cut line out of the prop. We fished for a few more hours then cleaned a box of fish. When I got back, I flushed my knife with fresh water and let it dry. The next morning, see the pics.
I broke the knife down to clean it. I find it interesting that most of the rust happened at the pivot.
What do I do next?
Do put it in my sonic cleaner? I dont think that will take the rust off. Im afraid to use the dremel with a polishing wheel. Do stuff it in an orange and let the acid do its thing? I like interesting creative solutions. Its a daily carry so I dont expect pretty.

I use my knives. This one, I "loved it to death". I know I abused it. Try to be nice.

Definitely look salvageable with a little effort. I wouldn't be afraid to use a Dremel with a polishing wheel or wire brush.

I think the moral of the story is if you put a carbon steel folding knife in salt water, you need to disassembly it afterwards to give it a thorough clean. Rinsing with fresh water isn't enough to get the salt out of the internals.

Yep, that's the conundrum of having a folder in a steel susceptible to rusting.

In a fixed blade you can get to most of the steel, assuming the tang is sealed up. Also, it's easier to dry more thoroughly.

You would be well served by a Spyderco Salt series if you frequent bodies of water, especially if you want to carry a folder.

For fun, I thought I'd post up a bait and fillet knife I have been using on saltwater fish. It does not get any care at all, other than sharpening.

Used, washed in hot soapy water, hung wet on a magnetic strip.

It is made of a soft 1095 and has inexpensive cutlery rivets holding on unfinished wood scales. I suspect the scales will fall of way before the knife corrodes into oblivion.

Not abuse at all. Just the nature of the steel. Clean it up, oil it, and put it back to work!

This is why I'm not a big fan of anything other than stainless of stainfree steels in folders.

I'd try some steel wool and WD-40 first.

Another steel wool and wd40 vote here. No real harm of any kind I can see there. I doubt there is anything pitting of a material nature there.

I greatly appreciate the pointers. This is why I love this forum. Im doing the vinegar soak for the patena. I need to clean up the liners too but im just going to use wd40 and ultra fine steel wool.
