My paracord shoulder rig for large knife

In anticipation of receiving my Ontario Ranger RBS 9, which shipped today, I have been thinking about how I plan to carry such a large chunk of steel. I personally don't like anything heavier than a Mora on my belt (I have no hips and no backside, so belt carry is uncomfortable), so I decided to make a shoulder rig to use while around camp and processing wood.

I used 50 feet of paracord. I cut a single 9ft piece and folded it in half, then did a cobra stitch with the remaining 41ft. I followed this video that showed how to make a cobra stitch knife lanyard and just did it for the entire length and looped the end http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fyz8zTGEs84

For reference, I am 5'11 180lbs, 44" chest and I used every bit of the 50ft paracord pack.

Here it is with my Becker BK2:

It came out nice, good job on the shoulder rig.

If you ever do decide to try to use a belt setup and dislike how heavy things ride on a normal belt you can look into molle belts like the Blackhawk Padded Patrol belt, I used one during airsofting with a decent amount of gear solely support by that and it doesn't budge or require readjusting. Another buddy of mine does the same thing but uses a different type of belt, same story he love it and doesn't require adjustments and it's very comfy. You look silly if your just camping or hiking but with how comfortable it is, who cares. (As for my belt, it doesn't budge an inch or even a fraction of an inch after I put it on so you don't have to worry about it falling down)

my knife dealer, who likes big fixed blades, made a figure-8 shoulder rig with just a single strand of paracord and it works. because it's just one strand, he can wear it over a t-shirt, carry a cold steel kukhri, and cover the whole thing with just a loose dress shirt.

I find that a good gun belt can make a lot of weight disappear.

If you wear jeans, a reinforced wilderness tactical riggers belt works wonders.

Your rig would be ideal for a only sometimes knife, easier to take off/put on. Well done if you prefer this method.

Looks good BuckeyeGuy. Your stitches look nice and consistent. With your user name I figured you would have used scarlet and gray paracord instead of black.

Funny you say that. My original intent was to do just that, but the store I went to only had black and OD green paracord. I guess I'll have to make a scarlet and gray bracelet.

It's a great way to carry discreetly a big blade. I generally use only a loop of single paracord, or a double loop over and under the shoulder. However, it does get painful after some time rambling through the woods. Your solution looks great... and it stores 50 ft of paracord ! Not bad at all !
