Hey guys need some help new pm2 off center. I think I have about a business card gap between blade and liner alone the blade. I spent 3 hours trying to get it perfect. I've improved it slightly and I have it where I like the blade deploy speed but it's still off center. But I noticed one side of the blade stop pin screw doesn't come out it just turns is this normal. I've done the recommend ed loosen pivot then stop pin screws then scale screws and tighten up in same order one side then the other and I've tried criss crossing like you would lug nuts on a car. But that one screw doesn't do anything just keeps turning counterclockwise it does tighten though. I'd like to try to keep the knife my last pm2 came dull and I could never seem to keep it sharp this one is sharp. One good thing is the play is in the good direction where when I right hand open it pushing on the blade natural gets it closer to center.

If you're hell bent on keeping it and there's no blade play, off center doesn't really matter. Don't get me wrong, it bugs the hell out of me too, but as long as there's no blade play and the blade isn't scraping the sides when deployed you should be fine.

I'd send it back! And keep sending them back till you get an acceptable one.
If it takes more than 1 or 2 returns the company will probably just tell him no more and give him the option of a refund or keep the current one. It cost them a lot of money for something that doesn't actually affect the performance of the knife.

You need to take the pivot apart. They have an over zealous assembler there that uses Loctite to hold one side of the pivot tight so that they only need one torx driver to assemble the knife. Take it apart, clean the Loctite out of BOTH sides of the threads and reassemble. After this you will have a perfect PM2 that opens as it should and is centered. I have had to do this one every PM2 I have owned. Sending it back doesn't guarantee anything will change.

I'm thinking this stuck stop pin screw has to do with it a bit but it's almost like they should of put another washer in there on the pivot like the China spyderco sometimes have 3 on the left and 1 on the right

If its going to be a user, blade isn't rubbing at all, is sharp & deploys & locks up the way you want it to then I'd just use it & enjoy it. If after a month or 2 your still dwelling on the off center blade then sell it. Off center blades drive me nuts as well but I do exactly what I told you or I just send it back before messing with it.

I'm a little annoyed I've had 3 American knives be of worse quality then 3 China spyderco my tenacious perfect centered no play and just as smooth opening and closeing

Use it. It's perfectly fine. If the blade is not rubbing I don't see the problem.

If I use a finger worth of pressure it rubs on closeing. In normal use I'm not sure if this would happen much. It should have about a credit card clearance to be centered this has about a business card on one side and 2 credit cards on the other. My other pm2 I had was perfectly centered but I think had a poor heat treat or something

I get it & I would be annoyed too. I think your just having some bad luck though as I've had several US made Spydercos & they were all perfect. Just how it goes sometimes. One reason I like buying from the exchange though as then you can see the actual knife & ask the seller if there are any issues like uncentered blade etc.

This. I recently took my new Mili apart and had to scrape loctite off the washer and liner. They must have drums of that stuff there. It is now smooth and no issues whatsoever after a "cleaning".

I have taken a few apart and have never gotten a PM2 that was off center with bad action to become perfectly centered with perfect action just by taking it apart and re assembling.

He's right about the pivot though - you just need to get your chippewa up and pull it out. It's not welded in there, it's just tight.

A lot of the PM2 blades are off center. I suspect that it has as much to do with the locking mechanism and other mechanics of the design as it does the pivot. It's not a big problem though and most will still work great if you get the detent dialed in.

Do you guys think this centering will get worse or better over time? Will it start rubbing in a year? like I said the one screw is stuck in there for the stop pin so I don't know if I could even get it apart. I've disassembled a Chinese ambitious before and that was simple to lube the rough action and Those have male female screws. But these seem to be male male. I think I could have gotten all screws out but 1. Unless that one is supposed to remain in the liner so you don't loose it? I'd already be doing this but I'd hate to mess up that alignment I have for nothing that took me a few hours to get the best I could. I see blue loctite on the screws the China ones had red or orange loctite

Well guys I took it apart my stuck screws weren't a problem as I noticed they stay in the liner on one side. The loctite wasn't a problem I don't think. there was maybe slightly more then I'd put personally. I cleaned most of the pivot screws off with alcohol and a razor. And the blade pivot. I oiled up the pivot with fp10 and the bushings. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. But I noticed one screw had double amount of loctite as the the other one I'm sure that contributed to the problem slightly. But back together it's still off center to the same point I was at before maybe slightly different I think but I like to disassemble things so I was happy to do it.

lol! ^
Can you live with it? I have learned to do this.
Just use that knife and enjoy it.
