My Pearl Anniversary Gift

My lovely wife and I just celebrated our 30th anniversary, which is traditionally known as the Pearl anniversary. She got me this awesome Case Pearl Corelon stockman. I started to sharpen it and carry it, but as I started thinking about the fact that this is a special gift, and since it is a limited edition 1 of 500 made, if I should just save this one in original safe queen condition? I know that this will probably never be worth a great fortune in my lifetime, but I kinda hate the thoughts of scratching and messing it up too? What are everyone else's opinions here? Should I use it, or save it and preserve it for the memories? I am undecided. Lord knows I have enough others to use and abuse. 20230923_193540.jpg

I would use it like I stole it. 🥷

I don't understand not using knives at all - especially not ones made relatively recently. 🤔

I guess I'm not destined to ever be the John D. Rockefeller of pocket knives. 💸

Put it this way: If I owned King Tut's alien space dagger, I'd use it to spread cream cheese on my morning bagel - and I'd bet he'd get a kick out of it too! ☄️🗡️🥯💀

Quite simple, if you actually enjoy carrying it & using it then take it into service as a nice reminder. If you find it's better as an object of reverence then do that! Both suit the knife and your lucky situation, but you are the only judge of this

chevyrulez1 chevyrulez1 beautiful gift and Happy 30th Anniversary! No right or wrong, simply how you feel about it. I carry and use what I want and I preserve and cherish what I choose to. I have expensive knives that are well used and some still new that are on my desk just for the sheer joy of the beauty of them - I pick them up and handle them when I want - blemish free. Either way, enjoy your gift and the sentiment attached to it. OH

Of all knives, I’d use that one. The main argument against using a knife, IMO, is that it’s simply too valuable when you have “users,” but if my wife gave me a pretty one, I’d consider that I’d never be able to sell it, so even if it was worth $1000, I may as well enjoy it. Doesn’t mean I’d use it hard, open a paint can with it, or choose it for the day I go help a buddy build a cabin, but I’d carry it on special occasions at least, and if I needed to cut something with it, I would, and proudly.

Very nice & congratulations.
As previously said up to you.
There is something special about carrying a knife that is gifted to you.

I have decided to go ahead and sharpen it and carry it on special occasions. I was contemplating saving this knife in original condition, but I guess I will use it (lightly)
Looking online, there are many different variations of the "1 of 500" special edition / premier edition knives from Case, so I am not sure that it would really be worth any more than any other as a collectible, and I would never sell this one anyway so I guess it is a moot point.
I love the knife, and have decided to go ahead and carry it.
Same with my few GEC knives that I own, there is always that temptation to try to preserve them in original condition, but I struggle with owning something that I do not use for it's intended purposes.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback guys.

Sounds reasonable.
I will have to advise the wife😉, we have about 3 1/2 years to 30.

I think you made the right choice.

Use it - just don't lose it!

Maybe consider a pocket slip or something for a little more pocket traction. I've had knives, fortunately all recovered, that have slid right out of my pocket and into the couch cushions or worse - right onto the floor. Hasn't been an issue since I started carrying them in slips.
