My perfect knife

Everyone has their own idea of what a perfect knife would be, for them. These days, I simply need a pocket knife more than any other type. Now that Spyderco has introduced that royal blue S110V (I suggested the color a few years ago, as have others) I would like to have a USA made Chaparral in this exact combination. To me, this would be perfect. A perfect design, size, color, and steel. I hope Sal is listening.

Since the Chap is a gentleman's folder, I would prefer it in a softer steel with superior sharpness - say Superblue for example. I like the blurple as well but I also enjoy other colors. Really like the deep navy blue of the Manix S110V and a real purple in G10 might be appealing tool. Here's hoping!

You are fortunate, then, since they make the PM2 in this way. I like the PM2 and will get another one. But, for day to day use, the Chaparral or Delica are better choices for me.

I also like the pm2 for its versatility. It can handle bigger tasks as well as the small ones. For outdoor work I find the bigger handle to be useful.

USA made is asking for a lot I think. They use American steel so maybe they would send some S110V over there. I doubt it will happen due to the fact that the Chaparral series is intended to showcase unique handle materials and not different steels. I also think that S110V is probably not the ideal steel for a gents folder which it is to me. I carry a Chap often and have never needed that kind of wear resistance in that little knife. XHP is just about perfect for the Chap if you ask me. I think XHP is a good choice due to the thin grind and 2mm stock and while I am not a steel expert I do wonder if S110V would be a good choice for that thin of a blade. Of course I also don't consider it a stand alone knife and always carry anoth knife with it.

The PM2 is closest to perfect for me.

Unless I could design it and have it built exactly the way I want I won't find a knife that is perfect. There are things I would change about the PM2 to make it more to my liking but until I did that I wouldn't know if it was actually an improvement or not. It might turn out to be better as it is.

Another vote for the PM2. It's easily the spyderco that see's the most pocket time hands down. Fantastic size and great ergo's. Cant complain about it at all!

That's a good point about such a hard steel on a very thin blade. XHP is one of my favorite steels already, and I agree with Doc about the Chap being one of the greatest edcs out there, so it's near perfect for me already. I'm hoping the rumored bronze handle chap will be as amazing as it sounds!

Bronze sounds awesome

For me, it is more about the scales than the steel. I love that CTS-XHP and would prefer it to the S110V for this knife. But, if they moved it to the USA I was thinking they would want to keep it in the series with the rest of them. Scales, man, scales. I love that color.

Caly 3 and 3.5 are perfection and I could only hope that now they have stopped making Calys in Moki they move production to Golden. To me, Caly>Native and deserves all the sprints and variation the Native gets heaped on it.

Hi Doc,

Not likely. As Killer mentioned, it's quite complicated and would require new tooling.

I think overall spyderco does a great job. No one can argue they don't have a wide variety of models, steels and sizes. What I'd wish for is some refinement. Example, I like many love the PM2. I'd love it even more if I could get a non sprint PM2 with sculpted smooth CF or Ti scales.

I really wish the blurple color looked more like the dark blue they use on the new dark blue FRN's. Less purple cast and more grey cast.
