My little M6 as been a user and couch potato off and on, but i like to grind on her when bored...

not that she is anything near done, but she is a bit presentable (and usable) now. Once i get her where i want her, duracoat is gonna fly. Man goes she rust quickly. Next step is to fit the handle a little better to me...

i like it! what do you have in mind for the handle?

first to thin down the height, taking lots from bottom, and just a touch from top... and then to sharpen/point the skull crusher... it is just too tall for my hand.

thanks all for the thumbs up...

Hi yall... its been a while.

-I kept the Tanto profile as much as possible, but I lowered the point to be inline with the new lowered grip, so to keep the point directly in front of any thrust.

-The blade is convexed from spine to edge... (0 ground?)

-I took out mucho carne from the belly of the grip. Thinning it as much as possible, but leaving a widening/wedge that begins mid pinky finger.. Awesome retention from this (a trick i borrowed from my HI Khurks).

-I thinned the top out, but only from the midpoint of the hump forward. I dug in fairly deep for the thumb relief, but wanted to keep the rearmost hump functional for a lower grip position.

-Paint is cheap BBQ paint. I choose it as it is so flat, and great on my auto applications, but on the super smooth polished blade, it seems the paint has not enough to hold onto, as she flakes whenever I use her.

-She chops and chops hard, with a deep bite! With minimal effort, she sinks very deep, and batons with little to no effort. (made quick work of even a knothole.)

-Overall, I am very happy with her now. I know some may not like the look of the grip, but for how I choose to hold and use her, the grip is beautiful in my hand.

-No duracoat yet, but I will try some and see if it holds any better. If not, I may just use a strop on the entire blade for a super fine polish, and then try to keep her oiled (rather than painted). I am a bit leary of this, as SR101 rusts so easily (IME).

-I would be proud to carry her. And did I mention she is a wicked chopper for her size?

"And now for something completely different...!"

That's some slick looking mods going on there! Glad it worked out for you.

And who needs oil? Just keep a can of flat black spray paint around and hose her down after each use! :D

I actually like the look.

I would say either do a very fine polish or rough it up and paint or duracoat it.

Perhaps a professional hot gun-blueing treatment (eg:by a gunsmith) would do the trick. Not sure if the scales would have to be removed for that or not.

Awesome job IB! I really love what you did with the handle. Very, very cool.

Looks cool but you have weakened the tip now. Dont pry with it.

Looks more like a strider design now. Not to my likeing whatever floats your boat.

Skam

Thanks all for the thumbs up, I thought for sure she would win an ugly prize by others votes... with me thinking I was the only one who thought she was beautiful...

Tip is strong, I assure you... and she takes a mean batton.

I think I will try a little jewelers rouge on a strop to get her really polished and buffed.
