My poor BM 630 skirmish... dinged from closing

I've had it for less than a week and there is a dent in the cutting edge from the rearmost joining (ferrule)bolt. The blade just seemed to close too much. I adjusted the pivot 1/2 turn and this may have caused it. I've returned it to the way I bought it , but the edge has a dent... not good...
regrind?? I feel so stupid. After putting the pivot bolt back to "tight" the blade no longer makes contact.

I guess a word of warning to those who think they should f*** with high $$ knives. All would have been fine if I would have flicked it 200 times and left the pivot screw alone.

Any advise appreciated.
best
Mike

This is not the first time I have read of such an issue with these knives, and I wouldn't attribute it to your adjustment of the pivot screw. My suggestion would be to contact Benchmade and explain to them the issue that your knife is having. I would have sent it back to BM before trying to re-profile or otherwise repair the edge myself, but the company may still take care of it for you.

Thanks Padawan.
My inclination too, until I read of 4 week turn around. I'm thinking about approaching my local dealer where I bought it and let them eat the wait time.
My $$ My time..
I do appreciate you letting me know this contact seems "out of line" in spite of a 1/4 turn of the pivot screw. I really don't want to see the tip taken down 1/32 to clear the ding.. it's on the 2nd ferrell too (if thats what you call the bolts that join the scales) so something happened to this knife.
Looking at it now the edge lays off all the bolts by at least 1/16 and I can't press the blade into contact...
h-mm-m-m-m- ??? Dropped ?

I agree. This has been a common complaint with these knives, seemingly mostly lately. I'll bet Benchmade will be very receptive to your situation.

I have a Mini Skirmish and I guess I got lucky because the blade doesn't come anywhere near the hourglass spacers in the closed position. So, I doubt this problem is inherent to the design. You probably just got a bad one.

Good luck!

My son's 635 got a chip when it was dropped on the floor and the blade impacted the spacer. When closed the blade is very close to touching the spacer, so the impact must have pushed it into the spacer.

I think the design should account for a drop from waist hight. If I was using the back of the blade closed as a hammer,,, OK, but a casual drop...
Maybe I expect too much and should keep it in a bell jar ...

I have the same problem. My first mini skirmish's blade was way off center when closed, so much it would hit the side of the handle during closing. Then the edge was contacting the hour glass spacer and was being chipped. So I sent it back to the dealer, and asked they check the replacement. I got the replacement, it was better, blade close to center, but not perfect (but that wouldn't normally bother me), but the edge still contacts the hour glass spacer and is developing a small chip. It's not as bad as the first, but it's still a problem.

Right now I'm just going to enjoy the knife for awhile, but at some point I may send it back to Benchmade.

It would be nice if Benchmade put out a recall or admitted to this problem if they had a batch of defects go out.
