Maybe some of you remember my thread about getting a douk douk... well I did buy it last monday and after 1 week, this guy is simply asking for more work to do!
If you listen to Quebec news, you will learn that our construction industry is once again on strike. Working in the decontamination sector it means a lot of job for me because we can reach many spots when they don't work on them. In one 60 hours weekm the douk douk did so many thing, first of it supported my sweat, opened ciment bag and gravel bag, cutted trought drywall, cutting up boxes, cutting algeas (I'm serious decontaminating a lake is a real B****) cutted some roots in the soil, oppened paint can and was dropped many times. Now ,because I've worked in water all day, its rusty, and because it scrapped metal shaft not very sharp, but still going strong!

here are the pics of the poor guy. Hey any tip top help remove the rust ? (and yes it was oiled every morning with oil)

Holy Molly, Nick, change oil, the one you're using is clearly not oily enough.

Might need to dip it in an Ashton's poutine.

its not about the oil, its the fact it probably spent more time in the water than in my pocket today and its tuffglide I use

Ashton's way more oily.

For cleaning it however, as it's still surface rust, the good ole toothpaste trick might work, with a smooth used toothbrush. Be careful to not use the gel one. Good old white Crest, for example, is the way to go.

When it's done tho, you might want to consider forcing a patina on your blade, to make it a little more rust resistant.

Hope this helps.

I've found that firearms solvent, like Hoppes #9 (any gun oil really), with some 0000 Steel wool, can gently remove rust, and Flitz, or Semichrome metal polish, can take it to the next level.

A honey badger of a knife.

Get some apple cider vinegar and patina that blade up!! At least it's seeing some hard work, that's what it was made for after all!

Oil and steel wool or even some bar keeper's friend will take care of the rust. Once you get it cleaned up, put a patina on it. Brand new carbon steel will rust pretty easily. I'd spray it with wd40 before you oil it to make sure there's no water left behind. Oil can trap water between it and the metal which will cause rust.
